About This Pub
You know, when I think about The Dalesman, it really hits that sweet spot for a relaxed evening out – it's got this welcoming atmosphere where you can pop in for a pint and feel right at ease. The staff are proper lovely, always up for a chat and making sure everything's spot on, and the prices are a breath of fresh air, especially if you're watching the pennies. Plus, being so close to the station and town centre means it's perfect for nipping in before heading off or exploring the local sights. They've got a great setup with games like pool and darts, and that terrace is just the ticket on a sunny afternoon. On the flip side, I've heard a few tales of rooms being uncomfortably cold with no heating control, and there was that story about a stained sheet, which sounds a bit off-putting if you're thinking of staying over. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good time with friends, but it's worth keeping those little niggles in mind to manage your expectations.
Pros and Cons
Pros

It's got a brilliant location right in the heart of Darlington, just a short walk from the station and town centre, making it dead handy for a quick stop or exploring.
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always going the extra mile to make you feel at home – it's like chatting with mates behind the bar.
-
Prices are spot on for a budget-friendly night out, with great value for drinks and even a bite to eat if you're staying over.
-
Loads of fun things to do, like playing pool, darts, or relaxing on the terrace, especially on a nice day.
-
The place is generally clean and comfortable, which is a bonus if you're looking for a place to crash after a few pints.
Cons
-
Some folks have mentioned the rooms can be freezing cold with no way to turn up the heating, which isn't ideal on a chilly evening.
-
There have been a couple of gripes about things like stained sheets, so it might not always be up to scratch if you're planning an overnight stay.
-
A few reviews noted unhelpful attitudes from staff in certain situations, which could put a dampener on your visit.

Top place to stay. Clean, comfortable, warm and cosy, well insulated from traffic noise, perfectly positioned for town centre and station, and very competitive rates. And superb customer service. If you're considering a stay in Darlo, stick The Dalesman top of your list - you won't regret it.
Another proper pub. Great service, very friendly staff, and best of all, great prices. Pool table, domino's, and darts. Outside smoking area. Highly recommended. Easy access to town and railway station. So ideal for quick pint before catching the train.
Absolutely applaud by mine & my friends experience here!! *AVOID AT ALL COSTS* The room was absolutely freezing cold all night. You aren’t able to turn the heating on. The bottom sheet also had a blood stain on which we unfortunately didn’t see till the next morning. The attitude of the staff when talking about how cold it was, was absolutely disgusting!! Then slagging us off to other members in the bar as we are still sat there. They can’t look after the child or their dogs either. At no fault of the disabled child at all, my friend was assaulted when we first entered due to the fact that the people working there, his family, were paying no attention at all. Being shouted at and lied to by staff is completely out of order. I would never return & urge anyone to not waste their hard earned money!! The street is also filled with people using drugs & is right next door to a rough hostel.
Wow! Paid £45 for a spotlessly clean, warm room, comfy bed, ensuite toilet and shower (also spotless) with toiletries and towels, and wifi that works and puts hotels charging four or five times as much to shame. Clearly a labour of love for the family owners, they can be proud of what they provide here. Nothing fancy, but functional and fantastic. Thank you!
This is a very friendly little place family run. Rooms spotlessly clean and well appointed. The welcome from Victoria was second to none and nothing was too much trouble for thud young lady. She makes guests feel right at home. Had Chicken burger and chips from their snack menu and it was very good value for money. Burger included salad, hash brown and a couple of onion rings. Water was piping hot at 0530am. Would not hesitate to recommend this place to travellers on the road. Alan
