The Hoptimist, Darlington

Ah, The Hoptimist – it's this exciting new spot in Darlington that's got a real charm to it, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around, the staff are top-notch; they're so friendly and make you feel like part of the gang, which is just what you want for a relaxed evening. There's loads going on too – a brilliant games room with shuffleboard, darts, and more, all up for grabs without any extra cost, and they keep things lively with live sports and music. The drinks are decent and won't break the bank, making it a cracking choice for a night out with friends. But, on the downside, it's a shame about that lingering musty smell that greets you straight away – it does take the edge off the modern feel. The toilets could use a bit more attention, and I have to say, the beer selection doesn't live up to the 'Hoptimist' name; it's mostly run-of-the-mill lagers rather than anything crafty or hoppy. Still, overall, it's a solid venue if you're after fun and a warm welcome, just go in with your eyes open to those little niggles.
