About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about The Crown – it's one of those pubs that just warms your cockles from the moment you step in. I've heard from mates who've popped by that the food is spot on; think hearty homemade pies with lashings of gravy and fresh mash that tastes like a hug from your nan. They're all about local brews too, with a nod to South Oxfordshire's finest, and it's brilliant to see non-alcoholic options on tap for those driving or taking it easy. The place has this lovely community spirit, being saved from developers and now run by locals, which really shines through in the friendly service and awards like Pub of the Year. It's dead welcoming for families and dogs, with games to keep everyone entertained, and that beer garden is an absolute treat on a sunny afternoon. On the flip side, it's a tad out in the sticks, so if you're in a hurry or not nearby, it might not be the easiest spot to nip to. Plus, the hours can be a bit patchy on some days, so you'd want to check ahead to avoid disappointment. All in all, it's a top-notch spot for a proper pub experience – I'd say give it a go if you're after good food, great company, and a bit of that traditional English pub magic.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely brilliant – fresh, homemade dishes like steak and ale pie that folks rave about, and it's all prepared on site.
  • It's a proper community gem, saved by locals and run with heart, earning awards like Oxfordshire Pub of the Year.
  • Super welcoming vibe for everyone, including families, dogs, and groups of walkers or cyclists, with board games and a cosy atmosphere.
  • Lovely beer garden for sunny days and wood-burning stoves inside for those chilly evenings – perfect for a relaxed pint.
  • A great selection of local ales and even non-alcoholic options, making it inclusive for all sorts of tastes.
Cons
  • It's tucked away in the countryside, so it might take a bit of effort to get to if you're not local, which could be a faff on a whim.
  • Opening hours vary by day, so you might miss out if you're hoping for a spontaneous visit on quieter evenings like Tuesdays.

Great pub, well worth the trip out from Didcot - it's miles better than any of the pubs in the town. The food is all fresh, homemade and absolutely delicious and there's a great range of drinks, including non-alcohol beer on tap which is nice to see. There's a beautiful beer garden, and a cozy fire inside during colder months.

Excellent evening! Relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. Service attentive but not pressured. Food was delicious. Homemade pie of the day with lashings of rich tasty gravy was amazing. The accompanying mash was like a taste of home, a pure delight.

Just a really lovely place to have lunch- we sat outside on a sunny day and were in the shade in a gorgeous outside seating area.. although would have happily sat inside too... The food was amazing and such good value for money! Service was outstanding, so friendly and welcoming. Honestly 11/10, would highly recommend!

A beautiful, friendly, welcoming pub. Sat outside in the sun. I had the best steak and ale pie that I've EVER eaten in a pub...proper pastry, rich gravy, lots of filling. The staff were lovely. I will definitely go back. Dog friendly, easy parking, what's not to love?
