About This Pub
You know, I had a lovely time at The Crown Inn the other week, and it's one of those places that just feels like a proper local gem in Carlisle. The staff are absolute stars – always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly, which really adds to that warm, welcoming feel. They've nailed the drinks side with a brilliant range of beers and ales, and the food doesn't disappoint either; those pub classics are fresh and flavoursome, ideal for a casual meal with friends. It's buzzing with events like live music and quizzes, plus they've got the footy on the telly, so it's perfect if you're up for some entertainment. On the flip side, I did notice the operating hours aren't easy to find, which might catch you out if you're popping by on a whim, and while most folks rave about it, that 4.4 rating hints there could be the occasional hiccup. All in all, it's a solid spot for a good laugh and a drink, but it'd be even better with a bit more info on when they're open – worth checking out if you're in the area, but go in with realistic expectations.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
They've got a fantastic selection of real ales, craft beers, and European lagers, perfect for a proper pint with mates.
-
The food is spot on – think fresh, homemade pub classics like steak and ale pie, all at fair prices that won't break the bank.
-
It's a lively spot with regular live music, quiz nights, and big screens for watching the footy, so there's always something going on.
-
The atmosphere is relaxed and community-focused, with a nice, airy feel that's great for catching up with friends or even bringing the dog along.
Cons
-
The operating status seems a bit unclear from what I've seen, which might mean it's not always open when you'd expect – always best to check first.
-
No specific opening hours are listed anywhere, which could be a nuisance if you're planning a visit and want to avoid any surprises.
-
While the reviews are glowing, the overall rating dips to 4.4, suggesting there might be the odd off day or something not quite hitting the mark for everyone.

Great pub. Thursday night and plenty in for a quiz.
Plenty of TVs with sports on.
Fair prices and very friendly bar staff.
I didn't eat as already eaten but will try some snap next time in I'm town.
Absolutely faultless! Nice decor, friendly, helpful, efficient staff, great range of beers, good food at reasonable prices, great atmosphere, big and airy feel, plenty of TVs for sports viewing. Dog friendly if that's your thing. Can't recommend highly enough.

A big thanks to The Crown in Stanwix for fitting us in for dinner without a reservation and on a live music night! Venison Sausages and Mash & Steak and Ale Pie was smashing, after a long journey. Recommended for good atmosphere and service 👌
Stunning pub, beautifully created areas but wide and open.
Nice beer, very friendly service and a fab location. A great pub on Scotland Road that beats everything in the area. If you want to stop for a drink, this is the place.
