About This Pub
Ah, The Crown at Bathford – it's one of those gems tucked away in a picturesque English village that just feels like home from the moment you walk in. From what I've gathered from the reviews and their website, they've nailed the classics with simple, award-winning food that's all about quality ingredients prepared with real care, and at prices that won't leave you shocked. I love how they've got a cracking selection of beers and wines to pair with dishes like lamb stew or burgers, and the live music nights sound like a proper laugh, adding that extra spark to your evening. It's super dog-friendly too, which is great if you're out for a stroll and fancy a break. On the flip side, though, there was that one review moaning about terrible service and dodgy food, like stale sandwiches and inedible veg, which is a shame because it shows things aren't always perfect. Still, with a solid 4.3 rating from heaps of folks, I'd say it's worth a punt – just keep your expectations realistic and maybe book ahead for the busier nights. All in all, it's a solid spot for a bite and a chat, and I'd definitely recommend giving it a go if you're in the area.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely spot on – think award-winning homemade dishes like lamb burgers or Sunday roasts that are packed with quality ingredients and served at fair prices, making it a real treat without breaking the bank.
-
It's got that warm, family-run feel with friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for popping in with the dog or catching up with mates over a great selection of beers, wines, and spirits.
-
They've got live music on Thursdays and other events that add a fun buzz, plus the beautiful village setting means you can enjoy a sunny garden or cosy interior depending on the weather.
-
Portion sizes are generous, and it's dog-friendly, which is brilliant if you're out for a walk and fancy a stop-off.
Cons
-
There have been a few gripes about inconsistent service and food quality, like reports of stale bread, overcooked sides, or dirty glasses, which could put a dampener on your visit if you're unlucky.
-
It might not suit everyone if you're after something more upscale, as it's a classic pub experience that sticks to simple fare, and the odd negative experience shows it's not flawless every time.

Excellent service, great food and good portion sizes. Sat out in the back garden in the sunshine, very pleasant.
The Crown at Bashford, Bath
Nestled in the charming surroundings of Bashford, The Crown is a welcoming and cozy pub that offers a delightful experience, even for a light visit. We stopped by for soft drinks and teas, accompanied by a selection of desserts, and were thoroughly impressed.
Each sweet treat was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious, showcasing a real attention to detail in both flavor and texture. The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, creating a warm and relaxed atmosphere that made us feel right at home.
Although we didn’t explore the main menu this time, the quality of what we did have has certainly left us eager to return. If you’re in the area and looking for great service in a comfortable setting, The Crown at Bashford is well worth a visit.
Fantastic gastro pub (dog friendly) to come and have lunch with Friends and family. Great homemade ingredients,(try the Lamb or chicken burger, you won’t be disappointed) really relaxed atmosphere with great staff. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!
Driven past this pub tens of times and never stopped... I've been missing out all this time! Such a cool interior, good selection of beers (and spirits) and finally delicious yet reasonable food! Lamb stew special was delicious, I'll definitely be back again!
Terrible service.
Terrible food.
Chips looked like they were left over from the previous evening and refried.
Peas inedible. Dry
Dirty glasses
What was supposed to be a chicken Mayo sandwich came in a stale ciabatta with low quality chicken and absolutely swimming in garlic Mayo.
Even after we polity made them aware of the inedible food they charged full price and even tried to charge a service fee. Of which there was no service. We were waiting a ridiculous amount for time for waitress to clear the plates considering how quiet the pub was with No apology. Very rude and bad attitude by manageress.
Won’t be returning.
