About This Pub

So, chatting about The Crabtree in Hemel Hempstead, it's one of those classic pubs that feels like a proper local gem – you know, the kind where you can pop in for a mid-week bite or a family Sunday roast without any fuss. From the reviews, the food really shines; people are raving about things like the open steak sandwich and beautifully presented roasts, and it's clear they've got a good range for everyone, including veggie and vegan options, plus a kids' menu that keeps the little ones sorted. The staff get a big thumbs up too – they're described as warm and helpful, especially when it comes to sorting out allergies or just making sure you're comfortable, which makes the place feel inviting and homely. That spacious beer garden sounds like a winner for those nicer days, giving you a bit of outdoor space to enjoy a drink or meal. On the flip side, it's not all perfect; a couple of reviews mentioned some disappointments, like waiting ages for food that didn't live up to expectations or getting the wrong table after booking, which could put a dampener on things if you're in a rush. Overall, with a solid 4.0 rating from plenty of feedback, I'd say it's worth giving it a go – just keep in mind it might have the occasional off moment, but the positives definitely outweigh the negatives for a laid-back pub experience.

We Visited the Crabtree with family for a birthday lunch. The food was amazing loved the open steak sandwich highly recommend. The staff were very friendly especially Tanya, she was very Attentive, she checked we were happy with our food and didn’t need anything else. We had a very young baby with us and she made sure we had everything we needed to feed her Peacefully. She told us she’s just become a grandmother Which we couldn’t leave because she looks so young. Thank you for an enjoyable afternoon. We can’t wait to return.

Lovely experience at The Crabtree We had such a great time at The Crabtree! Huge thanks to the fantastic team — Sarah, Grace, and Chloe behind the bar were so welcoming and friendly, making sure everyone (including the kids!) was looked after with a smile. And a special shoutout to Josie in the kitchen — the food was delicious and came out quickly, which is always a win when you’ve got little ones. The whole place had a warm, relaxed atmosphere and the staff really made us feel at home. We’ll definitely be back for another family visit soon!

We had the Sunday roast, which was delicious and beautifully presented. Unfortunately, there wasn’t quite enough gravy. However, the service was fantastic—Tanya and the rest of the staff were wonderful. Thank you, and we’ll definitely be back!

Nothing was great, very poor service I would expect better from I thought was a trusted brand. Staff couldn't find the table we had booked, when it was found we were not in restaurant as booked. Food then took nearly one hour to arrive. Poor quality when did, fish was like cardboard, pineapple not able to cut. I felt not able to send back to kitchen to recook because staff attitude not approachable. Online table service told not available because it was too busy.

HBH Family lunches. Visited for lunch several times during our stay in the area. On each occasion the pleasant staff were extremely helpful regarding food allergies. Several different eating areas and a large out door garden, appears to be fenced from the road. Recommended meals; Posh Fish n Chips; Scampi; Haddock n chips; Hunters Chicken Schnitzel. And the Vegan caramel cheesecake is scrumptious!
