About This Pub

Ah, The Brandling Villa – it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot for a good old night in Newcastle. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food is where it really shines; think unusual twists on classic pub fare like those legendary burgers and chips that folks rave about, all made with high-quality ingredients that leave you wanting more. The beer selection is brilliant too, with their own microbrewery offerings that you can sample in thirds, which is a smart way to try a few without overindulging. It's got that warm, welcoming feel, being dead family-friendly and packed with events like live music and quizzes that keep things lively without being overwhelming. On the flip side, there are a few niggles; some have mentioned minor hiccups with the food, like the occasional tough bit or portions that don't quite satisfy, and if you're not into dogs, it might feel a bit like a canine convention at times. All in all, it's a solid choice for anyone after a contemporary take on a traditional boozer – I'd say give it a go for the good vibes and that excellent grub, but keep expectations realistic for the little downsides.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely top-notch, with delicious and unusual pub grub like those ridiculous burgers and the best crispy chips I've ever tasted.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of cask beers, including their own brews that you can try in smaller measures – perfect for sampling without going overboard.
  • It's super dog-friendly, with a special menu for furry friends, making it a welcoming spot if you're out with your pet.
  • Loads of lively events like live music, comedy nights, pub quizzes, and even film seasons keep the atmosphere buzzing and fun for everyone.
  • The staff are really helpful and knowledgeable, especially when it comes to recommending ales, which makes the whole experience feel personal and enjoyable.
Cons
  • There might be the odd issue with food quality, like finding a bit of gristle in a burger or portions not quite hitting the mark, as mentioned in some feedback.
  • It can feel a tad overwhelming if you're not a fan of dogs, since it's so pet-oriented and they seem to be everywhere, which isn't for everyone.

Such a lovely pub. The food menu is unusual and doesn't have the usual pub meals. The food we ordered was absolutely delicious. The bar staff were helpful too on what ales were the best. They also had a dog food menu. Great place.

I went to this pub as I heard they make their own beer. I tried three of them, which were offered in third of a pint measure. This was great as it gives you the opportunity to try more, without drinking too much. The loaded fries I ordered were really good and I thought the portion size was good value. The staff are very friendly and the pub is clean and well kept. I would definitely recommend the Brandling Villa and will return next time I am in Gosforth.

Best chips I've probably ever had. Nice and crispy but soft inside. My burger had a few bits of gristle in but apart from that it was lovely. Servicewas spot on

Decent very decent burgers!! Chicken is absolutely delicious here. Steak and chips seemed just a little short of steak and the nachos were just okay. Good range of beers here and staff are very helpful. VERY dog friendly, too friendly for me!! Takes American Express and has high chairs.

One of our favourite pubs in the Newcastle area. Atmosphere is great with good music selection (we are 18, 28 and 30 year olds), varied crowd of people, and dogs allowed! Live music here is often great. Big TV for watching the games on. The food is what does it for us though, with high quality ingredients and delicious offerings. Portion sizes are large and food is usually cooked to perfection - we love the chips and burgers. You pay a bit more than at other pubs but it's worth it.
