About This Pub
Ah, The Coundon Hotel – it's one of those reliable locals in Coventry that just hits the spot for a casual get-together. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff are absolute gems; they're polite, chatty, and go out of their way to make sure everyone's sorted, whether you're tucking into a perfectly cooked steak or sorting out something special for dietary preferences. The food's a real winner too – honest, fair-priced dishes that cater to all sorts, and it's brilliant value, especially for families or groups looking to unwind without spending a fortune. Plus, it's got that community feel, with events like karaoke and support for local charities, which makes it more than just a pub; it's a bit of a hub. But, let's keep it real, it's not flawless – evenings can turn a tad chaotic with loud music or the odd screaming child, and if you're in a rush, the service might leave you twiddling your thumbs a bit longer than you'd like. Overall, though, I'd say it's a solid choice for anyone wanting a warm, lively spot to enjoy a meal and a drink with friends; just pop in with the right expectations, and you'll likely have a great time.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
The food is spot on – affordable, tasty options with great choices for vegetarians and those with dietary needs, like gluten-free tweaks.
-
It's a proper local spot with a lively atmosphere, perfect for catching up with mates over a pint, watching the footy, or enjoying events like karaoke nights.
-
Value for money is brilliant; you get decent portions without breaking the bank, and it's family-friendly too.
-
They're really involved in the community, supporting local causes and offering their space for groups, which adds a nice touch to the place.
Cons
-
It can get a bit noisy at times with clashing music or lively crowds, which might not suit if you're after a quiet chat.
-
Service can be on the slow side occasionally, like waiting a while for your food to arrive, which is a bit frustrating on a busy night.
-
The atmosphere isn't always ideal for a relaxed evening, especially if there are little ones around making a racket.

It's my local. It's always ther when you need it! It's not expensive, food is decent, and it's a very short walk in to town. 5 out of 5 from me.
Just thought I would add to this. Just called in for breakfast for the first time, wanted to check the had the Arsenal game on on Wednesday night. Three of us all had the Big Brealfast, we were all supprised as to how good it was, it was a 10 out of 10 from all three of us. I'll be back for another one very soon!
We had a lovely meal tonight and service was fab. Friendly and polite staff. Good value for money and steak cooked to perfection thanks chef 😉
Lovely Local pub , staff are ever so friendly always a nice atmosphere , Food is absolutely lovely and Karaoke Fridays are my Fave Nights Leigh you know how to host a good night at the coundon! Lovely guy and always makes us feel so welcome would definitely recommend visiting if you haven’t already
As a low carb vegetarian with a gluten intolerance, it’s fabulous to find a restaurant flexible and obliging enough to adjust their offerings to my atypical needs. Whilst hubby tucked in to his ribs with fries, my halloumi was served minus the rice or fries, but with a lovely range of (extra veg). It was so good that I asked if the halloumi I couldn’t manage could be boxed and the very friendly and obliging staff did just that. It’s so refreshing to find this level of service. My only critique is that the decor could be smartened up a little, but that did not detract from our experience.
I came here craving some good curly fries and got exactly what I was looking for! The rest of the food was great too - the only downers to the evening were a loud atmosphere with a screaming infant and clashing music, and the lengthy time it took us to receive our food. We followed up at the counter and were told that they hadn't received an order, only for the food to arrive immediately after placing another. Service in general seemed like something we had to seek out rather than something readily available. But the curly fries though...
