About This Pub

Ah, The Conan Doyle – what a gem of a pub in the midst of Edinburgh! I've got to say, it's one of those places that really captures the essence of a traditional British boozer, with its nods to Arthur Conan Doyle and that warm, inviting vibe that makes you feel right at home. The food steals the show for me; whether it's the delectable steak and ale pie or the crispy fish and chips, everything comes out hearty and full of taste, and at a fair price too – it's just the sort of fare that hits the spot after a day of exploring. The staff are a friendly bunch, always up for a chat and quick with a pour, which adds to the fun atmosphere. On the flip side, though, it does get bustling at times, so popping in without a reservation might leave you hanging, and if you're someone who prefers a more modern twist or a quieter corner, it might not quite fit the bill. Still, overall, it's a solid choice for anyone wanting a genuine pub experience with a dash of history – I'd definitely recommend giving it a go if you're in the area.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – think hearty classics like steak and ale pie or fish and chips that are packed with flavour and generous portions, making it a real treat for a proper pub meal.
  • It's got that lovely cosy atmosphere, perfect for settling in with a pint and enjoying a good chat, especially with its rich history tied to Arthur Conan Doyle right in the heart of Edinburgh.
  • Service is spot on too, with friendly staff who pour a cracking pint and add a bit of fun to the experience, as one visitor mentioned getting a laugh along with their drink.
  • Great value for money, offering solid British pub grub without breaking the bank, which makes it ideal for a casual get-together.
Cons
  • It can get pretty busy, especially in such a central spot, so you might need to book ahead to avoid waiting around, as the reviews suggest.
  • While it's a traditional pub at heart, some might find it a tad on the conventional side if you're after something more contemporary or quiet.
  • The opening hours seem a bit variable from what's listed, so it's worth double-checking to make sure it fits your plans, as it could catch you out on a Sunday evening.

Lovely cosy pub, and was able to get a beer in me nice and quick. Shoutout my potentially distant cousin Julia for a good laugh and a great pour!

Classic pub featuring traditional pub fare — hearty all around! I had a classic steak and ale pie which was delectable and of a sizeable portion. My friend had the fish and chips and reported that the fish was tasty and the chips were appropriately crispy. All in all, good value for money, nice decor, and friendly staff.

Wow, the food here is so tasty. I have seen this pace millions of times but I tried it for the first time recently and I was impressed. I ordered their special award-winning steak pie. It was very tasty, it had some well-cooked whole soft onions in it with great gravy. We also tried the Nachos with pulled beef, which was great too. The staff are very nice and polite. The view from the windows is nice too, it is toward the busy area of the Omni Center. Inside it was quite busy. I recommend this place.

Very cool pub located in a great spot. The food was incredible and the portions were generous. Highly recommend the steak and ale pie (it was to die for!) and my husband loved his burger. We both thoroughly enjoyed our sticky toffee pudding. Would definitely come again!!
