About This Pub
Ah, The Commissioners Quay Inn – it's one of those places that really warms your cockles on a chilly evening in Blyth. From what I've gathered chatting about it, the staff are absolute gems, always up for a laugh and quick to lend a hand, which makes the whole experience feel cosy and inviting. It's brilliant for dog lovers too; you can bring your pooch inside without a fuss, and they've got treats on offer, which is a nice touch for a relaxed pub outing. The food generally hits the mark with plenty of tasty options and that stunning harbour view to boot, and if you're stopping over, the rooms sound like a proper treat – clean, comfy, and just right for a good night's kip. But let's be honest, it's not all roses; some mates have shared that the service can lag a bit, leaving you waiting longer than you'd like, and a couple of regulars reckon the grub doesn't always live up to expectations, which is a shame after years of loyalty. Still, with an overall solid rating, I'd say it's worth a visit for a pint and a chat – just go in with an open mind and you'll likely have a grand time.

The food is generally spot on, with great choices and a relaxing atmosphere, especially with that lovely harbour view.
-
The rooms are clean, spacious, and well-equipped, perfect if you're staying over after a few pints.
-
Its location is spot on, right in the heart of things, making it easy to pop in for a quick lunch or a longer stay.
Cons
-
Service can sometimes feel a bit inattentive, like they might not check in as often as you'd hope during your meal.
-
A few folks have mentioned the food isn't always up to scratch, with some long-time visitors feeling it's below average.
-
There might be the odd niggle with things like breakfast options or room temperatures, though it's not a deal-breaker for most.

Long-time regulars deeply disappointed – will never return
We’ve been loyal patrons of The Commissioners Quay Inn for over 3 years, not because of the food (which has always been below average), or the inattentive service (staff rarely check on diners or clear tables until you leave), but solely because it was one of the few dog-friendly establishments in the area.
We have two Yorkshire Terriers who are part of our family. We always bring a blanket so they can sit quietly on the seat beside us – they’re calm, never disruptive, and simply sleep during our visits. For over 2.5 years, this has never been an issue. We’ve visited two or three times each week and also regularly dine at other Inn Collection Group locations, including The Amble Inn and The Tynemouth Castle Inn, which remain welcoming and accommodating to responsible dog owners like us.
However, on our most recent visit, we were approached by a tall man who, in an unnecessarily passive-aggressive and curt manner, informed us that dogs are no longer allowed on seats. We had visited just two days earlier with no such message communicated to us. The man was abrupt, offered no opportunity for discussion, and walked away mid-conversation with clear attitude and lack of respect. His delivery felt discriminatory and left us shocked and embarrassed.
We promptly left and have no intention of returning. This is not how loyal, respectful customers should be treated. We’ve since confirmed that no group-wide policy change has been implemented, meaning this was a local decision, poorly communicated and handled without any courtesy or professionalism.
Extremely disappointed.
Called for lunch on the way back to Yorkshire from Berwick. Know the chain well and the food did not disappoint. Dog friendly inside and plenty of space for our 3! Helpful and friendly staff.
Stayed here with my partner and our dog whilst visiting family. The room was lovely, the hotel's in a great spot to access everything in town, and it's so convenient that the whole hotel is dog friendly - they've even got a dog menu for the bar! My only criticism is that the breakfast menu in our room didn't tell us that the continental breakfast closes at 9, which seems like an oversight, but the hot breakfast was still available until 11 and it was lovely. As were the cocktails we had from the bar. I was also really surprised by the whisky selection - they had some fantastic ones I haven't even seen in upscale bars in cities.
It is a little more expensive than other local hotels, but you get what you pay for. Treat yourself!
Amazing friendly customers service . Food is very good . Great choices. Spotless airy rooms . Tidy well equipped . Great beds and fresh white sheets . All round cannot fault this place . Great harbour view too. So relaxing . Nice atmosphere . 🤩 decided to stay another night .
We stayed one night here in a top floor room at the back. The room was a good size with an armchair and chair and space for clothes. There was a kettle and a good range of tea and coffee etc. We could open the window, which we prefer. The room wasn't overly warm, which was okay for us not the tiled floor in the bathroom was distinctly chilly. Other friends were in rooms that were very warm, so it seems to vary. Breakfast was fine and the evening meal good and all the staff were friendly and helpful.
