About This Pub

Ah, The Coal Yard – it's one of those unpretentious bars in Burnley that you stumble upon and end up returning to for its straightforward charm. From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, it's spot on for a laid-back afternoon or evening; the reasonably priced drinks make it easy to settle in without worrying about the tab, and it's got that comfortable seating vibe that's ideal for watching the footie or just nattering away with mates. The bar staff seem to be the real stars here, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly, which gives it a warm, community feel. On the flip side, it's a shame they don't offer any food options, so if you're peckish, you'll need to plan ahead. Plus, a few people have mentioned the atmosphere isn't quite what it used to be before COVID, and things like the toilets could do with some attention – nothing major, but it might take the edge off your visit. All in all, it's a decent choice for a no-fuss night out, especially if you're in the area, but it's worth going in with realistic expectations to enjoy the good bits while steering clear of the minor letdowns.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The drinks are reasonably priced, making it a great spot for a casual catch-up without breaking the bank.
  • It's a comfy place for watching sports or enjoying a relaxed seating area with friends.
  • The bar staff are really welcoming and provide excellent service, which adds to the friendly atmosphere.
Cons
  • They don't serve any food, so you might have to head elsewhere if you're looking for a bite to eat.
  • Some drinks can feel a tad overpriced, like shelling out £5 for a Kopparberg, which might put a dampener on things.
  • The atmosphere has lost some of its spark since before COVID, and the toilets are in need of a bit of upkeep.

It used to be ok before COVID. But now there is no atmosphere and they are charging £5 for a koppaberg strawberry and lime. Toilets and sinks are in need of work. Don't think I'll bother going again.
