About This Pub

Ah, The Coachmakers Arms, what a spot it is! I've got to say, it's one of those pubs that just wraps you up in its charm from the moment you step inside – think old-school coaching inn vibes with a hint of mystery from its haunted past, which adds a fun twist if you're into that sort of thing. The real stars here are the gravity-poured real ales; they're spot on, with a great range including local favourites, and at prices that won't leave you out of pocket. Pair that with the super friendly staff who go the extra mile – like calling a cab for you or serving up a mean pint – and you've got a place that feels like a proper community hub. The beer garden's a treat on sunny days, and if you're lucky, you might catch some major sports action on the telly. On the flip side, it's a tad compact, so things can feel a bit crowded when it's busy, and the food options, while delicious when available, are restricted to certain hours and days – no luck on Sundays, I'm afraid. Still, overall, it's a welcoming spot that does the basics brilliantly, making it ideal for a casual pint or a quiet meal with mates. I'd definitely recommend giving it a go if you're in Norwich; you might just find yourself returning for more.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of real ales, like Woodforde’s Wherry and guest beers from local breweries – perfect for a proper pint lover.
  • Prices are really reasonable, so you can enjoy a good drink or a bite without breaking the bank.
  • The atmosphere is lovely, with its historic 17th-century charm, a cosy beer garden for summer evenings, and even a big open fire for those chilly days.
  • When food's on offer, it's fresh and tasty, with generous portions that hit the spot, especially the classics like sausage and mash.
Cons
  • The pub is on the smaller side, so it can get a bit snug during busy times – best to pop in early if you're after a table.
  • Food service is limited; it's not available on Sundays and only runs at certain times during the week, which might disappoint if you're peckish late on.
  • It can be surprisingly quiet at times, like on a Saturday night, so if you're after a lively buzz, it might not always deliver.

Came here a few weeks ago and had the sausage and mash. Staff were very friendly and the pub has a good atmosphere, it is quite small so arrive early to get a table, the food was fantastic and the prices are some of the best I've seen at a pub, will be returning in the future

Great traditional pub with gravity poured real ales in tip top condition. Bar area is good with an outdoor area which was popular (it's a sunny day). The price of the ale was fair and the service excellent. The pub is about a mile from Norwich railway station and there are nearby hotels, restaurants and other pubs.

Lovley atmospheric pub. We called in here after a long coach journey. The staff were so nice and even called a cab for us to our accommodation when we asked if they knew any local cab companies.

Big open fire, small menu but all cooked freash to order. Good size portion well presented. Great selection of beer straight from the barrel and price is very good too. Big open fire comfortable atmosphere, welcoming staff and locals. The Old coach part is covered with seats for extra space. There is a couple of TV for those who must but thankfully no sound, so conversation is key. 😊 thanks will be back next time we vist to this little gem. New is not always better and this is one excellent example 👏 And I think there is another for hire part up stairs?? You would need to check.

A really great city pub. We went for lunch on a Wednesday. The pub was nice and busy, and warm on a cold day. The menu here is very reasonably priced, and the food is excellent - I wished that I'd had the ham, egg and chips which looked delicious. Great selection of well kept ale and friendly staff who checked that the food was ok and said goodbye as we left. We'll certainly go back. Well done.
