About This Pub

Ah, The Clayton Arms – it's one of those pubs that just warms your heart the moment you step in. From the reviews I've seen, it's got that classic local charm in a former mining village setting, with a relaxed vibe that's perfect for a casual catch-up or even something like a family gathering. The staff are the real stars here; they're so attentive and helpful, whether you're popping in for a quality pint or tucking into some homemade grub like sausage rolls or a juicy burger. Speaking of the food, it's spot on – affordable, tasty, and with weekly specials that keep things fresh, all for around £10 or less. With a solid 4.7 rating from folks who've been there, it's clear it's doing a lot right, especially for value and that homely feel. On the flip side, the menu doesn't have heaps of choices, so if you're after something more adventurous, you might feel a tad limited. And those varying hours, particularly on Sundays, could catch you out if you're not prepared. All in all, it's a brilliant spot for a laid-back evening, but I'd say it's best for those who appreciate a straightforward, welcoming pub experience without the frills.

Pros and Cons

  • The staff are absolutely brilliant, always going above and beyond to make your visit special
  • The food is outstanding, with highlights like the Clayton Burger offering great quality and value for money
  • There's always something going on, from weekly menu changes to a welcoming vibe for meeting up with friends and family
Cons

  • Opening hours can vary a bit, especially on Sundays, so it's worth double-checking to avoid any surprises

23/03/24 - Finally managed to get back here to try the food. The menu is small, but there is a decent choice with additional specials most days. I opted for the Clayton Cheeseburger, which was very good; Juicy, tasty and with lovely onions. It was paired with skinny fires and onion rings both of which were really good too. To drink I had the Pubs only draft ale - Burrows Blond from Black sheep, it was ok. More choice would have been nice. My other half had a fish finger sandwich, which was also nice, with a nice homemade tartare sauce too, this was accompanied by a side of truffle and parmesan fries and some onions rings, which were superbly crunchy. We both had the sticky toffee pudding for desert, which was excellent. Hot caramel custard, the pudding itself and a scoop of very nice vanilla ice-cream. Top notch. In summary an excellent little pub with staff that are very friendly and welcoming and a very decent feed; having a single ale was a tad disappointing, but we'll definitely be back. 07/12/23 - Attended here for a post funeral do, it's been many years since I was last here but it seems to be a great little pub now. The buffet laid on by the pub was excellent, by far the best buffet i've had in a while, especially the corned beef pie and sandwich selection. The draft real ale selection was limited, but at least they had some. I stuck to the Black Sheep Session IPA. The pub got busier as the evening drew on with many coming for food, the menu is small, but seems worthy of a try. The food we saw coming out of the kitchen all looked good. We shall be back in the near future to try the food for ourselves.

We’ve been meaning to try food here for a while and were not let down. The menu changes weekly with the exception of the Clayton Burger, which is delicious by the way! Most dishes on todays menu came in at £10 or less so great quality and value. There are chain pub alternatives close by which don’t come close to the food available here and you can see the pride the owners take in their business. Thanks for taking care of us 2 Adults and 4 kids
