About This Pub
Ah, The Church Green – it's one of those places that really pulls you in with its independent charm right in the heart of Cheshire. From what I've gathered chatting about it, the food's often a winner; people love the creative takes on pub classics, like those stunning desserts that leave you wanting more, and the overall presentation is spot on. The staff are gems too, always on hand with a smile and quick service that makes you feel right at home. It's got that relaxed, welcoming atmosphere where you can kick back with a craft beer or a glass of wine, and it's brilliant that they welcome dogs – perfect for a sunny afternoon by Lymm Dam. On the flip side, though, it's not without its downsides; I've heard a few grumbles about it being on the expensive side, which might put a dent in your wallet if you're not planning ahead. Plus, if you're unlucky enough to visit when they've got an event on, the menu can be slimmed down, leading to meals that don't quite live up to the hype, and some say the standard's slipped a bit from its heyday. All in all, it's worth a go for a special night out, but maybe check the schedule first to avoid any off days – that way, you can make some great memories without the surprises!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food here is often a real highlight – think delicious twists on classic pub grub, like those parmesan truffle fries that folks rave about, making it a treat for anyone after a proper meal.
-
The staff are absolutely brilliant; they're attentive and friendly, creating that warm, welcoming atmosphere that's perfect for a relaxed catch-up with mates.
-
It's got a lovely, cosy vibe with a relaxed setting, ideal for enjoying craft beers, wines, and even bringing along well-behaved dogs for a pint in the countryside.
-
They handle events really well, from weddings to birthdays, with a team that's eager to make your occasion memorable.
Cons
-
It can feel a bit pricey, so you might want to save it for special outings rather than a casual mid-week stop.
-
Some visits have been disappointing with a reduced menu, especially if there's a function on, which means you might not get the full experience.
-
The quality seems to vary; a few have noted it's not quite as top-notch as it used to be, with meals that can come across as average rather than outstanding.
-
It gets busy and noisy at times, which might not suit everyone if you're after a quiet evening.

I've not been since it change management but I went for lunch there was a reduced menu as they had a function on which was fine ordered a chicken and bacon sandwich. Which back with the old owners would have been proper chicken and bacon etc, what i got resembled and tasted like a lower own supermarket meal deal sandwich for just short of £15. I just feel for what the pub used to produce i doubt I'd be returning unless it returns to producing the standard of what it used to.
Went on a sunny Friday evening for the first time in a few years. This used to be a decent gastropub and one of the first in the area for top notch pub grub. No longer, and perhaps I should have done some research beforehand. The place has gone distinctly average. The good was OK, just and the atmosphere was quiet with a half empty dining area. The service was attentive which was a redeeming feature. Not what I remembered so probably won’t be going back. Too many places in the neighbouring area are far better.
The food was very visually pleasing. Staff were amazing and attentive. We had 2 deserts which were the best part.
Nicely taken over from the old church green owners. Food was lovely, I would recommend the parmesan truffle fries they were very yummy. Inside was lovely and warm on a winters evening. Atmosphere when we visited was quite empty to begin with then turned busy and noisy as a large group arrived. Be prepared for a lot of green inside, all the walls even the radiators were green. Staff seemed friendly but was served by one member of staff most of the evening. Overall experience was nice so I rate a 5 star
Absolutely stunning. Relaxed atmosphere and surroundings with seriously good food. We were both totally blown away with the standard - this could stand proud among Michelin star restaurants. Amazing mix on the menu but even the most ‘standard’ of dishes are done with a twist. Simply cannot wait to go back, I actually had one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Amazing
