About This Pub
Ah, The Cherry Tree – it's one of those local gems in Melton Mowbray that really pulls the community together, run by a family who's clearly passionate about what they do. I've got to say, the food stands out as a real winner; their home-cooked breakfasts and Sunday roasts are just the ticket for a satisfying feed without breaking the bank. Plus, with live sport on the telly and a lineup of events like quizzes and curry nights, it's easy to see why folks keep coming back for a bit of banter and good times. The staff are genuinely lovely, always up for a chat, and it's super family-oriented with perks like a beer garden and being dog-friendly, making it feel inclusive and relaxed. On the flip side, though, there have been a few slip-ups with staff not fully clued up on things like dietary requirements – that could put a dampener on things if you're watching what you eat. And let's be honest, it's not the most glamorous spot; it's got that classic estate pub vibe, so if you're after something more upscale, you might find it a tad basic. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back evening with mates or family, as long as you go in with realistic expectations – the positives far outweigh the niggles, in my book.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are always friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
They serve up some cracking home-cooked food, like their popular breakfasts and traditional Sunday lunches – proper hearty meals that hit the spot.
-
It's a brilliant spot for watching live sport on BT and Sky, with regular events like curry nights, quizzes, pool, and darts to keep things lively.
-
Being family and dog-friendly, it's a welcoming place for everyone, complete with a beer garden, free WiFi, and handy car parking.
-
Prices are spot on for a good night out – inexpensive and value for money, especially for the quality of grub on offer.
Cons
-
Some staff aren't quite up to speed on dietary needs, like confusing veggie and vegan options, which could be a letdown if you're particular about that.
-
It's more of a no-frills estate pub, so if you're after something fancy or modern, it might not quite live up to expectations.
-
A few visits have been disappointing over the years, suggesting the experience can vary depending on the day.

Despite being our local for 13 years, have only ever been in a handful of times, each disappointing. Staff are friendly enough, but poorly trained on dietary requirements on the menu - a kitchen staff member told me that the difference between the vegetarian burger and vegan burger was that it contained nuts... Food was reasonably priced, but arrived with zero attention to presentation or actual care towards making it exciting. I'd say it could be nice for a drink in the summer, but with no greenery, if you chose to sit outside, you're practically sat in the car park.
Both bar area and restaurant area are run down - hole in the wall with some plaster slathered on top, not even painted. Lighting is pretty fluorescent and nothing quirky or interesting. Very dull and run down.
Feedback to management: the whole pub needs redecorating properly, could be lovely and have a nice ambience with some love and tlc, but in it's current state it's very tatty and poorly maintained. Train your staff and raise the quality of food and service overall. A pub this size and in this location should be the heart of the community. Also the toilets haven't been decorated for decades, please give them some attention.
Absolutely fantastic! I stopped by today at 1:30 PM for a spot of lunch, just before the kitchen closed at 2 PM. I ordered the Sausage and Mash with Garden Peas and Onion Gravy, followed by a Banana Split with vanilla ice cream for dessert.
The young ladies behind the bar were very kind and polite. The cutlery and sauces are self-serve, but the food is delivered straight to your table.
The Sausage and Mash was delicious, the gravy was hot, and the peas were cooked to perfection.
The Banana Split was fantastic, you get a lot for what you pay, and it goes down a treat after such a brilliant main!
First time here for a long time. Place has been tastefully decorated and was very pleasing to see. Guy behind bar was very friendly and efficient. The food was piping hot and delicious.
I had the BBQ chicken and it was phenomenal. Quite often at the price point of the Cherry Tree the chicken is overcooked, but it was wonderful. Juicy and tender throughout, the bacon was also well cooked. Fantastic meal, much better than I'd expected it to be!
A 1970's estate type pub. There are two bars, one with a pool table and the other with seating. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The food was good and inexpensive. (Food is served in the larger of the two bars). It is an 'Estate pub' so don't expect anything special. Overall, a place that we would visit again when in the area.
