About This Pub

Ah, The Grapes – it's one of those pubs that really captures the essence of a classic British local, tucked away in the market place of Melton Mowbray. From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this brilliant, lively buzz where the staff and crowd are always up for a chat, and the prices are spot on for a pint or two of well-kept beer. It's got that authentic feel that's hard to find nowadays, with darts and a welcoming vibe that makes you want to linger for another round. On the flip side, it's not all perfect; some folks have mentioned it feels a tad run-down in spots, and if you're in a wheelchair, getting in might be a bit of a hassle, which is a pity because it could be more inclusive. Overall, if you're after a genuine pub experience with great value and a proper community spirit, it's well worth a visit – just keep those points in mind for a balanced night out.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely spot on – it's a proper traditional pub with that lively, welcoming vibe that's becoming rare these days.
  • The staff and regulars are so friendly and chatty; it's like popping into a mate's local for a catch-up, making every visit feel warm and inclusive.
  • Prices are incredibly reasonable, especially for well-kept beers that hit the spot without breaking the bank.
  • It's got a genuine, down-to-earth charm with things like darts on offer, perfect for a fun night out in the heart of Melton Mowbray.
Cons
  • It can feel a bit grotty in places, which might put some off if you're after something more polished or spotlessly clean.
  • Accessibility is a challenge, particularly for wheelchairs, as getting in and around isn't straightforward, which is a shame for those who need it.

A proper pub with great atmosphere. Last of a dying breed. Very reasonable prices for excellent kept beers. Heard they are planning guest chefs in the near future. Well worth a visit.

The Grapes Pub in Melton Mowbray epitomizes timeless charm with its traditional ambiance. Warmly welcoming, it boasts a clientele of down-to-earth locals. As one of Melton's few remaining authentic drinking pubs, it offers a genuine and rare pub experience, and a nice pint of Eagle 🍻

Fantastic welcoming atmosphere complemented by friendly chatty staff who care about their town. The prices are incredible and the customers are always chatty and good fun. Darts is always popular there. Adequate seating inside and outside . Had many great nights after work and will continue to do so.

Traditional local in the heart of Melton town. You'll probably love it or hate it -- I was really surprised - loved it - lively local atmosphere with super friendly owners and bar staff. Good prices too. Doing their best to do all the right things with social distancing too.
