About This Pub
Oh, The Half Moon Inn is one of those classic British pubs that you can't help but appreciate for its charm and character, tucked away on Nottingham Street in Melton Mowbray. From what I've gathered from chats with folks who've been there, it's got this inviting buzz, especially with events like folk music nights that really bring the place to life and make for a memorable evening. The landlord and landlady sound like absolute gems, always up for a laugh and making sure the drinks are flowing nicely with a solid range on offer. And when the food's good, like those generous ploughman's platters, it's spot on for a satisfying bite. But, let's be honest, it's not all roses – some have had a rough time with cold or poorly prepared meals, and the service can slow down in a crowd, which might leave you a bit frustrated. Plus, if you're new to the area, you might sense a bit of a clique among the regulars, making it feel less open. All in all, it's a solid choice for a traditional night out with mates, as long as you go in with realistic expectations and perhaps stick to the drinks if you're unsure about the grub.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is absolutely spot on – it's got that warm, traditional pub feel with live music and a real community vibe.
-
The staff and owners are top-notch; they're friendly, welcoming, and make you feel right at home, especially if you're a local.
-
They've got a cracking selection of beverages, from great beers to other drinks that keep everyone coming back.
-
Some of the food hits the mark, like those generous ploughman's lunches and platters – proper hearty portions that satisfy.
Cons
-
It can feel a bit unwelcoming for newcomers, with some of the regulars making things intimidating if you're not part of the crowd.
-
The food isn't always reliable; I've heard tales of cold dishes and disappointing meals that don't live up to expectations.
-
Service might drag on when it's busy, leaving you waiting longer than you'd like for drinks or food.

Went in on a week night last week and felt awfully unwelcome. Not the first time it's happened either the same 5-6 men at the front bar intimidating anybody new that dares to venture in. I live very local and would love to come here with my friends, we're all 25-30 and go drinking in Melton every weekend but unfortunately I'd never spend a penny in there again. Tried it 3 times now and each time been the same. Really dissapointing as it could be a good pub if it wasn't for the miserable elder bar lady and unfriendly/rude gents at the front bar.
It's so refreshing to find a real traditional pub nowadays it was lovely to see a generation of musicians playing together on a Tuesday afternoon a wonderful friendly local pub
Great atmosphere great staff top notch landlord and land lady
What a cracking little pub. Just moved into the local area. That was accepted with open arms . Family run . Great banter. Only went there for drinks.
Really great, friendly pub.
