About This Pub
You know, chatting about The Chequers feels like sharing a pint with mates – it's that kind of unpretentious spot in Rochester that just draws you in. I love how they've nailed the cosy feel, with a log fire keeping things snug on chilly evenings and a cracking beer garden for those long summer days; it's versatile for whatever the weather throws at us. The drinks are a real highlight, offering up a solid range of real ales and other tipples that make it easy to settle in for a chat. Plus, being dog-friendly adds a nice touch, and the live music and events give it a lively edge without overwhelming the place. On the downside, the food's pretty basic – just bar snacks really – so if you're hoping for a proper dinner, you might want to plan ahead. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back evening, especially if you're up for some darts or catching the game, but it might not be the spot for a more energetic night out. I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area; it's got that genuine, community feel that makes you want to come back.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is so warm and welcoming, with a cosy log fire in winter and a lovely beer garden for sunny days.
-
They've got a fantastic selection of real ales, wines, ciders, and speciality gins – perfect for a proper pint or something a bit fancy.
-
It's brilliantly dog-friendly, so you can pop in with your four-legged friend and know they'll be looked after.
-
Loads of entertainment on offer, like live music, sports on the screens, and even family fun days or special events.
-
Being inexpensive makes it a great spot for a casual night out without breaking the bank, and they've got free Wi-Fi and a dart board for added fun.
Cons
-
The food is mostly just light bar snacks, so if you're after a hearty meal, you might need to head elsewhere.
-
As a village pub, it can feel quite local and might not have the buzz of a bigger city spot, which could make it a bit quiet at times.
-
From what I've seen, it's more geared towards walkers, cyclists, or locals, so if you're just passing through, it might not stand out as much.

Lovely pub with good drink and service
I can’t say much about the food as I was invited here for a wake. I think it was really nice that they take bookings and do family events in there. The staff are really nice and it’s a nice little environment to be in.
So lucky to have this pub virtually on our doorstep.
Really welcoming and always a great atmosphere . Lots of live music, sports on several screens and great out door seating area too.
Visited this pub as a darts venue, nice warming and relaxing atmosphere. They had a shot deal on my visit with3 x shots for a fiver, otherwise its £5 for fosters here. I like the venue, there is parking available on site and some off road parking. Dart food was good. Bar staff were great.
Nice friendly pub recently done up, good garden, went for the live music that very much enjoyed
