About This Pub
Ah, let me tell you about the Fenn Bell Inn, it's such a hidden gem down in Rochester. You know, it's not your everyday pub; it's got this fantastic conservation project with a zoo right on site, which is just brilliant for a family day out. From what I've gathered from the buzz around, the food is spot on – think tasty meals that are well put together and reasonably priced, with big portions that leave you feeling chuffed. It's clear folks love the vibe here; it's relaxed and full of energy, especially with events like Halloween or Christmas adding a bit of excitement. The team running the place are absolute stars, always ready with a smile and a quick word, making you feel right at home. And hey, if you're a dog owner, it's great that you can bring your four-legged mate along. On the downside, there was that one niggle about some decorations in the toilets that put off a youngster, so it might not be ideal for every family moment. Plus, with it only being open five days a week, you'll need to check the times to avoid disappointment. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back visit, blending good grub, animal adventures, and a friendly atmosphere – I'd say give it a go if you're after something a bit different from the usual pub crawl.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely delicious and well-presented, with generous portions that won't break the bank – perfect for a satisfying meal.
-
It's a brilliant family-friendly spot with an attached zoo, making it a fun day out for kids and adults alike, especially with all the animal encounters and events like Easter or Halloween.
-
The staff are super friendly and attentive, always up for a chat about the animals or anything else, which really adds to the welcoming vibe.
-
You can bring your dog along in its stroller, which is a lovely touch for pet owners looking for inclusive places.
-
The overall atmosphere is lively and relaxed, with high ratings showing it's a hit for a casual get-together or special occasion.
Cons
-
There was a small disappointment with some pictures on the toilet seats that upset a child, so it might not suit everyone, especially with little ones.
-
It's only open five days a week, which means you have to plan around the schedule and might miss out if you're spontaneous.
-
Being a bit out of the way in Rochester, it could feel like a trek for some, though the unique mix of pub and zoo makes it worth the effort.

1 disappointing feature the pictures on the toilet seats upset our Granddaughter who was too scared to use the Ladies
We visited this little zoo, we were very surprised with what animals where here, we are a family of 8 adults and we also went to the pub for a lunchtime trip on a Sunday afternoon and it was lovely, the zoo is great no matter how old you are, I loved watching the otters, then we went and had a pub lunch its a very cute & cosy restaurant, the food was reasonably price and tasty, booking is required and all staff we met was polite and friendly, its lovely reasonably priced and cheerful day out especially if you live local would definitely recommend to go here 😀
Lovely place to take your children up to 12yrs old. Lovely people. Very popular
Excellent value meals, large portions; cost just over £70 for 4 adults and two children.
Plus a great family day out at the zoo, which is getting bigger and better every year for around £40.
