About This Pub
Ah, The Chapel Market Tavern – what a gem tucked away near Angel Station. I've got to say, it's one of those places that just feels like home from the moment you step in, with its rich history dating back to 1805 and that cosy market vibe. The drinks are an absolute highlight; they've got this brilliant lineup of craft beers on tap that rotate regularly, so you're always in for a surprise, alongside a solid wine selection and spirits to suit any mood. Pair that with their homemade pub grub – think creamy mash, tender roasts, and fun specials like bottomless wings on Tuesdays – and you're onto a winner for a casual meal or a proper feast. The staff really make it shine too; from what I've heard from others, they're dead helpful, especially if you're sorting out a do in their upstairs private room, which sounds perfect for celebrations without the hassle. On the flip side, there were a couple of mentions about the food not being flawless every time, like the calamari needing a bit more crunch, and you might find booking a table a challenge for smaller groups, so it's worth planning ahead or just popping in. All in all, it's a solid spot for us pub lovers looking for good times, great company, and that authentic London feel – I'd definitely recommend giving it a go if you're in the area.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
It's got a fantastic selection of drinks, with 15 rotating draft beers showcasing the best of UK craft brews, plus a curated wine list and loads of specialist spirits – perfect for a proper pint or a fancy cocktail.
-
The food is spot on; think homemade pub classics and a brilliant Sunday roast, with deals like bottomless wings and cheap burgers that make it wallet-friendly.
-
The atmosphere is lovely, being a historic spot established in 1805, right near Chapel Market, and it's got a relaxed vibe with great decor and accessibility features like high tables.
-
Service is top-notch; the team is helpful and makes events seamless, especially in the upstairs private room that's ideal for parties or gatherings up to 70 folks.
-
With a solid 4.7 rating from recent reviews, it's clear folks are having a great time, praising the chilled-out setting and tasty offerings.
Cons
-
One or two minor niggles with the food, like the fried calamari not quite hitting the mark with its coating, though the rest was generally delicious.
-
Bookings can be a bit tricky for smaller groups – it's walk-in only, so you might have to chance it on busy nights.
-
The operating hours seem a tad confusing with multiple listings for Sundays, which could leave you scratching your head about when it's actually open late.

We had a great experience booking a party here. The private room upstairs is beautiful and easily fit our party of 30 people. Joe the manager made it easy for us. Staff on the day were so helpful. Food platters were delicious.
Thanks! 😊
We couldn’t have wished for a better venue for our wedding party – Nat and the rest of the team were all brilliant and we had so many comments on what a great space it was and how ideal it worked for the occasion. Everyone loved the food, no one had to wait for a drink and all our guests felt relaxed and able to have a good time. Very unique to be able to hire the whole venue and great to have the two rooms and bars to create a different vibe upstairs. Would highly recommend for any event or just for some very good food and drinks in a lovely atmosphere!
The food was great, the onion rings were delicious and the mash potato was super creamy! Which, as a French person, I loved it a lot! Not at all dry like other mash I’ve had in other pubs! The slow cooked meat was super tender, the fried calamari was just lacking a tiny bit of breadcrumbs coating to make it extra crispy. Otherwise great pub!
A really nice pub not far from Angel Station. Great decor and plenty of tables available on a Saturday night. Open kitchen which is always a good sign for food. Nice chilled, relaxed and quiet pint. High table and stools for people with back issues. I currently have major back issues and low tables & chairs are no good for me. Great pub and thoroughly recommend!
Very nice pub, excellent music and tasty food. Good selection of beers, including alcohol free. Reasonably priced, check it out if you're in the area!
