About This Pub

Ah, The Alma – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper community spot in the heart of London, serving up pints and good times for over a hundred years. I have to say, what really stands out is their impressive lineup of craft beers and ciders on tap, with plenty of choices for those watching their gluten or alcohol intake, and at prices that won't break the bank – think £5 for a quality pint, which is a winner in my book. The staff are genuinely warm and chatty, making every visit feel like catching up with old mates, and they've got live music and karaoke nights that can turn an ordinary evening into something memorable. On the flip side, though, the music does crank up at times, which might spoil the mood if you're after a peaceful afternoon session, and the food options, while solid with some lovely Mexican influences, aren't always the star of the show. Overall, it's a solid choice for anyone looking for a relaxed yet lively spot; just keep in mind it might not be the place for a hushed conversation, but that's pub life for you!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The Alma offers a cracking selection of craft beers on tap, including some brilliant gluten-free and alcohol-free options, perfect for those wanting something a bit different without missing out.
  • Prices are spot on – you're getting £5 pints in central London, which feels like a real bargain and makes it easy on the wallet for a night out.
  • The staff are absolute gems; they're friendly, attentive, and go out of their way to make you feel right at home, just like the reviews say.
  • It's got a lively atmosphere with live music and karaoke on some nights, which adds to the fun and makes it a great spot for a proper pub evening.
  • They've got decent food options too, with mentions of tasty Mexican dishes and overall good grub that pairs nicely with the drinks.
Cons
  • The music can sometimes be a bit too intrusive, especially if you're popping in for a quiet pint, as one reviewer noted it might not suit everyone.
  • From what I've seen, the operating hours seem a tad inconsistent in the listings, which could mean you're caught out if you're planning a late visit.
  • While the drinks are fantastic, the food selection might not be as extensive as you'd hope, and it's not always the main focus here.

Popped in for a quiet one on a Wednesday afternoon in February. Music is a touch intrusive, and I suspect me and the two older guys drinking Guinness were not enjoying it, but friendly service, a great range of session IPAs and a £5 pint in central London makes this a great find. Didn’t eat, but menu looks like well thought through Mexican food that’s solid for a pub.
