About This Pub

Ah, The Castle, what a lovely little find in the midst of Islington's hustle and bustle. I've got to say, it's one of those pubs that just hits the mark for a good time with mates – the food is spot on, with everything from mouth-watering roasts to sharing platters that keep everyone happy, and the staff are genuinely attentive, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in. That rooftop terrace is an absolute winner, especially on a sunny day, where you can sip on a spritz and catch up without a care, or get stuck into some live sports with the crowd cheering away. It's brilliant for all sorts of occasions, whether it's a casual drink or a full-blown party, and they've got the atmosphere dialled in just right. On the flip side, it does get heaving at peak times, so you might end up jostling for space, and the prices are a tad on the higher end for what you get, which could put off if you're watching the pennies. All in all, though, it's a solid choice for us pub enthusiasts – worth a visit for the good vibes and that unbeatable service, even if you plan around the crowds.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely brilliant – from hearty Sunday roasts and juicy burgers to sharing boards that are perfect for a group catch-up.
  • Service is top-notch; the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome, whether you're popping in for a pint or hosting a big event.
  • That rooftop garden is a real gem, ideal for soaking up the sun with a refreshing spritz and enjoying the golden hour vibes in the heart of Islington.
  • It's a cracking spot for live sports, with big screens and a lively atmosphere that gets everyone buzzing, especially during big matches.
  • They handle events like parties flawlessly, making it a go-to for celebrations with great drinks and a welcoming vibe all round.
Cons
  • It can get pretty packed on busy evenings or during events, so you might have to wait for a table or squeeze in for a drink.
  • With moderate prices, it's not the most budget-friendly option if you're just after a quick, cheap pint – things add up with food and extras.
  • The location on a main road means it might feel a bit noisy from outside traffic, especially if you're hoping for a quiet corner.

We recently hosted our annual Summer Party at The Castle for our company of around 60-80 guests, and we had the most amazing time! Lois and the team looked after us from start to finish - great food, great drinks, great vibes!! It has the loveliest rooftop, and is generally just a really fantastic venue. The bar staff for the evening were absolutely lovely and couldn't be more accommodating - huge thank you to the whole team at The Castle!! I'd highly recommend this venue for any event.

I recently celebrated my birthday at The Castle, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience! From start to finish, the team went above and beyond to make the day special. A huge thank you to Reece, Mel and Otto —each of them was incredibly helpful, attentive, and made sure everything ran smoothly. Their friendly and professional service really stood out, and they helped make the celebration feel extra special. The food and drinks were fantastic, with a great selection and everything served to perfection. The team was also very accommodating, allowing us to bring our own cake and bubbles, which was much appreciated. We spent our time on the terrace, and the atmosphere up there was just lovely—relaxed, welcoming, and perfect for a celebration. Overall, I can't recommend The Castle enough! Thank you for making my birthday such a memorable one. I'll definitely be back soon!

We had a lovely roast here. I was gobsmacked by the beef and great service from Reiss and the rest of the team. They know their way around a Guinness too. We’ll definitely be back.

Lovely pub, for a drink but this time we ate and the food was outstanding. We went for Sunday lunch and between three us us managed to try the beef, chicken and pork. All the meats were very nicely cooked, and a generous portion (especially the beef) and came with amazing Yorkshire puddings and lots of veg. Extra gravy and puddings available on request and included in the price I think! Brilliant.
