About This Pub
Ah, The Centurion – it's one of those pubs that just warms your heart from the moment you walk in, you know? Being community-owned means it's truly at the heart of Vicars Cross, with locals chipping in to keep it going, which gives it this genuine, welcoming feel that's hard to beat. I love how they've got a brilliant range of beers, especially those local cask ales that go down a treat, and the food's a real highlight too – think hearty meals at prices that won't break the bank, perfect for a relaxed meal or even hosting a get-together like a birthday bash. The events are spot on as well; whether it's a quiz night for a laugh, live music to get the toes tapping, or catching the big games on their screens, there's always something on to make your visit memorable. On the flip side, though, the opening times can be a tad muddled, so it's worth checking ahead to make sure you're not turning up when it's quiet or closed early. And while most folks rave about it, that 4.3 rating hints there might be the occasional slip-up, like service not being quite as snappy or food availability being limited to certain days. All in all, it's a solid spot for a pint and a chat, and I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area – just go with an open mind and you'll likely have a smashing time.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
It's a proper community-owned gem, run by locals for locals, which creates such a warm and inclusive vibe that makes you feel right at home.
-
They've got a fantastic selection of drinks, including cracking cask ales from local brewers, and everything's at a great price – perfect for a casual night out.
-
The food is spot on, with a menu that's affordable and tasty, available on most days, and it's brilliant for events like birthdays or even kids' parties.
-
Loads of fun events keep things lively, from weekly quiz nights and live music to showing all the big sports matches on their screens.
-
The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable, always up for a chat, which really adds to the welcoming atmosphere.
Cons
-
The operating hours can be a bit confusing with varying times listed, so you might need to double-check before heading out to avoid disappointment.
-
As it's unclaimed on Google, it might not be as quick to sort out any niggles, which could mean things like menu updates or issues take a while to fix.
-
Food's only on offer certain days, so if you're popping in on a quiet evening, you might miss out on a bite to eat.
-
While the reviews we've seen are glowing, the overall rating sits at 4.3, suggesting there might be the odd off day or mixed experiences that aren't as positive.

I love my local pub to the point I'm a shareholder. Nice food at a great price. Fantastic choice of drinks.
Had a lovely pint of Three Tuns here, crystal clear and nicely chilled. Had a great conversation with the barman, super friendly and very knowledgeable on all things local ( and computer games) . Smashing !!!
Working in the area, staying at a local premier inn, no bar food crap, Google found me this nice local pub that did food and could get a decent pint.
5 minute drive, busy with locals who were all pleasant, decent pint and good price, then ordered some food. Absolutely bang on, sirloin steak, chips mushrooms, tomato and peas 👌cooked perfect £11. Lovely meal, staff really nice. 3 more days of this will keep me happy 😊

Father Christmas arrived and shook hands with each and every little one in the room with a Party bag and gift . I saw lots of very happy children dancing in the pub at a night to remember . Thanks to all the volunteers that made it happen. Your e simply the Best !
A good old fashioned traditional pub where you can stand at the bar or take a seat at a table. Live band on, and the bar service was quick. Plenty of selections of drinks. Locals were also friendly and welcoming. I did not eat there so I can't comment on that one.
