About This Pub
Ah, the Peacock Hotel – it's one of those neighbourhood pubs that really tries to get it right, you know? From what I've gathered, it's got that lovely, homely feel where you can pop in for a pint and catch up with friends, or even settle in for some proper pub classics on the menu. The staff often come across as genuinely friendly and eager to please, especially if you're there for events like Sunday lunch or watching the footie. That outside area sounds like a winner for a sunny afternoon. But, let's be honest, it's not all pints and cheers; there are times when the food doesn't quite live up to expectations, like when dishes turn out overcooked, which might leave you a bit disappointed. And I've heard a couple of stories about interactions with the team that felt a tad off, so it pays to go in with an easygoing attitude. Overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed night out in Chester, as long as you're prepared for the odd hiccup – worth giving it a go if you're in the area!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, making it a perfect spot for a casual catch-up with mates or watching the big game on TNT Sport and Sky Sports.
-
They've got a solid menu of classic pub grub, including options for Sunday lunch, kids, seniors, and even gluten-free choices, which is great for families or those with dietary needs.
-
Service can be spot on, with friendly staff going the extra mile, like sorting out a brilliant Christmas dinner for a large group.
-
There's a lovely outside area for enjoying a drink in the fresh air, and it's conveniently located on the outskirts of Chester.
Cons
-
Food quality seems a bit hit or miss – one visit might have you raving about tasty meals, but another could leave you with burnt dishes like lasagne or steak.
-
There have been a few awkward moments with staff, like feeling unwelcome over something trivial, which could put a dampener on your evening.
-
It might still be settling in with the new management, so things aren't always running smoothly just yet.

Made to feel very unwelcome with a comment from staff (possibly landlady) insinuating I was intending to be violent. I was sat outside having a chat and a drink with a friend and apparently the pool cue I had brought with me to use on their table "could be used as a weapon" I was simply having a chat and a beer. I won't be returning.
Edit.
No. I won't be giving you another chance. If keeping my fairly expensive cue stick with me while having a drink in the beer garden makes you think I'm planning on using the cue stick as a weapon I'll frequent an establishment that understands that I'm interested in English pool and Snooker rather than violence. Thanks.
Edit,
I wasn't a customer it was the woman who had served me a Guinness and a vodka and coke. Like I said I won't be returning. Trying to cover up a lie as a joke is tbh pathetic.
Good pub grub in a nice pub. Service was good. Lovely outside area. Good choice of drinks. Note, visited again next night, food not great, burnt Lasagne x2 and burnt steak so think can be a bit hit or miss.
Great local pub with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The Christmas dinner we booked for 40 people was fantastic, couldnt fault it and the staff made us feel right at home. The landlady is always exceeding expectations, as well as all the staff they provide top-notch service and a friendly vibe. Family-friendly with excellent entertainment to keep everyone entertained at all times whether is be the quizz on a Tuesday evening or weekend bands. Highly recommend for a cozy, enjoyable experience mid week or, pre drinks before town on a weekend you always feel valued!"
We came here to sample the Christmas menu, we had 3 courses. All delivered within good time, food was served piping hot & really tasty. Staff couldn’t do enough for us, well done too Karen & the team!
New management June 2024
What a difference 👏 many thanks for bringing our local pub restaurant back to its community. Great team of staff. Bar & food service good. Still going through a changing process and the locals are returning. Our food yesterday was pretty impressive. New management very assertive & runs the pub like she actually cares & wants to be there. Thank you.
