About This Pub

Ah, The Bunch of Grapes – it's one of those pubs that really captures the essence of old-school London, tucked away on Brompton Road and steeped in history since 1644. I have to say, what I love most is how it blends that timeless atmosphere with modern touches, like being dog-friendly and having family-friendly options, making it a great spot to pop in for a relaxed meal or a catch-up over drinks. The food hits the mark for traditional pub fare; think hearty fish and chips or their seasonal specials that bring a bit of freshness to the table, and they've got choices for all diets, which is always a plus. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect – I've heard a few tales of staff not being as warm as you'd hope, with some coming off as a tad brusque, which can really affect the mood. And while the dishes are tasty and portions are generous, they don't always wow you; a Sunday roast might leave you wanting a bit more polish, and the fries could use some improvement. Still, for anyone after that authentic pub experience in a prime location, it's worth a visit – just go in with realistic expectations and maybe chat up the friendlier faces behind the bar to make the most of it.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The historic charm of this pub is absolutely delightful; built in 1644, it's like stepping back in time right in the heart of Knightsbridge, surrounded by iconic spots like Harrods and the V&A Museum.
  • They serve up some solid traditional pub grub, like tasty fish and chips and other classics, with options for vegans, vegetarians, and those avoiding gluten, making it quite inclusive.
  • It's a welcoming spot with great facilities – dog-friendly, family-friendly, and even has WiFi, plus they host functions and have some fun specials, like their Pride events with Absolut Vodka.
  • The atmosphere really shines through as a proper British pub, without any distracting screens, just good vibes and a sense of history that makes you want to linger over a pint.
Cons
  • Service can be a bit hit or miss; some staff come across as standoffish or rude, which puts a damper on the experience, as it's the people behind the bar that often make or break a visit.
  • The food is decent but nothing to write home about – it's good enough to order again, yet some dishes like the Sunday roast or fries fall short of expectations and lack that extra wow factor.
  • While the portions are generous, things like the high calorie count on certain meals might surprise you, and overall, it doesn't always deliver anything truly extraordinary to stand out from the crowd.

Chose to visit as pub had many good positive reviews but we were disappointed with service from 2 lady staff. Both had sour looks on their expressionless faces. One European was standoffish; retorted rudely that she was busy when I tried to order from the counter. The other Indian was cold; ordered fish & chips supposedly with crushed peas. When we enquired; just a got retort that they do not have it,no explanation even though customers have posted pics.Later on a regular customer came with her pet labrador both were fawning over the dog giving it free snacks like a VIP guest. Not exactly the warm British hospitality many rave about. We just ate and left quietly.Unlikely to return.

Food was good, certainly not unhappy about anything. Each item would order again, but that said there wasn't anything extraordinary about it either.

A nice, typical English pub with tasty fish and chips. Servings were big, I must say the estimated numbers of calories for it caught me unawares - 1500 kcal! Shocking. Delightful though, as well as the beer.

Nice pub with an interesting history behind it. Been tere a long time. Didn't eat in here as we were going onwards and outwards to Hammersmith. I always think that apart from the atmosphere in pub, that means no flipping screens and a real pub feel to it, that it's the bar staff that make a pub. Now the bar staff, including the manger and manageress, were polite but lacking in that bubbly or chatty bar person that make a customer want to be there again and again. In short, because of all the bar staff, the pub had a flat atmosphere to it. They are probably very nice people otherwise.

The Sunday roast was a bit disappointing. The fish and chips were decent but nothing special. The fries for both dishes weren’t great. However, the overall atmosphere made up for it. Definitely has that classic British pub charm, which makes it worth a visit. A good spot if you’re after the experience rather than just the food.
