About This Pub

Ah, Paxtons Head, what a gem in the heart of London – originally a gin palace from 1900, it's got this wonderful Victorian charm that really sets the scene for a proper pub experience. I love how the place strikes that perfect balance between cosy and lively; whether you're settling in for a quiet afternoon pint, catching up with friends over some tasty food, or getting stuck into the action with the Women's Euros on the big screen, it just feels right. The staff are usually bang on, offering friendly service and a decent range of drinks and meals that hit the spot every time. That said, it's not all roses – there've been a couple of tales of service slipping up, like not handling a special drink order with the care it deserved, which might leave you a bit miffed. Still, with most folks raving about it and that high rating, it's clear this pub does a lot more right than wrong. If you're in Knightsbridge, it's definitely worth a visit for a relaxed night out, just keep an eye on the crowds and maybe check ahead for events.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely charming, with that classic Victorian vibe – think red brick interiors and etched mirrors that make you feel like you're stepping back in time, perfect for a cosy catch-up or watching the footie.
  • Service is generally spot on; the team are friendly and efficient, making sure your pint or meal arrives without a fuss, and they've got a great selection of cask ales and fresh, flavourful dishes to choose from.
  • It's a welcoming spot for all sorts, whether you're popping in for an afternoon read, a date, or to cheer on the Lionesses during big matches, with facilities like Sky Sports, TNT Sports, and even being dog-friendly adding to the appeal.
  • The menu offers solid variety, and from what I've heard, everything tastes spot on – ideal for both casual bites and something a bit special without breaking the bank.
Cons
  • There have been a few grumbles about unprofessional service on occasion, like when staff weren't quite up for handling custom drink requests, which could put a dampener on your evening.
  • It might get a tad crowded, especially during events or peak times, so grabbing a seat could be a bit of a challenge if you're not quick off the mark.

Absolutely love my visit to Paxton‘s head! The service was top-notch - friendly and professional. It was lovely and cozy Pub love the atmosphere, Making a graceful for both casualty and special occasion. The menu had a great variety, and everything we ordered tasted fresh and full flavour. The pulled mushroom chilli & the Mac and cheese was highly recommended.

After returning back home to Norfolk from our London trip to Knightsbridge. We stopped at the Paxtons head bar. We wanted to leave a review for the team and give feedback as there are too many negative people in the world. Especially when it comes to food and drinks. Credit is where credit is due. The team who helped and served us with food and drinks was excellent/exceptional . They met us with friendly smiles and very welcoming. They managed to get us a table for 4 when the bar was buzzing and very busy. Food was outstanding great value and delivered within a speedy timescale seeing how busy the bar was. My partner took the names of our waitress Amy who was smiling very and helpful. My son Paul really liked her personality. Remi the bar person was happy and knew his job role. I personally spoke with the assistant manager and she informed me that she and her team would look after us. We will definitely return to this venue as we found other bars in Knightsbridge not so clean and welcoming. Many thanks to all team involved.

As much as it pains me to put this review i think the staff acted really unprofessional towards us. We went for after work drink to this pud where we went many times before. At the bar young guy served us and we got one pint and on the menu was margarita and we asked if they can do spicy one? The guy replied "this is not a soho house" which i ki d of ignored at first because I know where I came to and it was definitely not a soho house. He offered to make margarita and add tobasco, we said ok to that. When we went to collect he made another comment "next time if you want a proper cocktail go to cocktail bar" and give us glass with drink in it and bottle of tabasco ... we sat ourselves by the bar and same guy was pouring clients drinks and then he was finishing the drinks by himself by drinking from the bottles 😅 i was like what is going on here, are we in Knightsbridge or somewhere else? We made comment to the bar manager he at first apologised and asked to send an email, then he finished our conversation saying "maybe this guy was tired" and this made me realise that sending email will end up in the email bin, this way im communicating this hopefully will be knowledge. It's a lovely pub and many people from work goes there, it's just a shame that staff can't be a bit more professional.

We're here from the US on our first trip to London and a friend recommended this pub, he used to live near it. The vibe is great, cozy and cool with great music. You order food and drinks at the bar, grab a seat and they bring it to your table. We came in around 8pm, found a table and ordered. The beers on tap were delicious while we waited. BUT, let me just tell you that the food was the main event. We got the steak & ale pie and the cheese toastie with chips and fries, both plates were beyond delicious - decadent, hearty, and perfect! The gravy for the pie went on absolutely everything as soon as the plates landed and we inhaled it all! After that we ordered the sticky toffee pudding with custard - just, yes! Get it! It was hot and gooey and something we'll be coming back for again before our trip is done! The meal was the perfect cure to our jet lag on our first day here! The staff were so friendly and asked if there were any allergies to be aware of with each order (we had none), and every time anyone walked by they checked on us. We agreed there is only 2 outcomes from this first dinner in London - either every meal after this will pale in comparison or we'll mourn all the meals here when it's time to go home. Even though this is in the middle of a very busy tourist district, it was recommended to me from a Londoner and now I know why. Definitely eat here!

Probably not a 5 stars but 4 aren’t enough. Very well maintained pub. Great interiors and a decent selection of cask ale. Ideal for a date, an afternoon reading or a friendly chat. On a busy street but once in the world outside doesn’t matter. Screen for sport and not-too-loud music selection. Special mention for Theo at the bar. Friendly and attentive. If you’re around pay a visit to this place.
