About This Pub

Ah, Simmons Bar in Angel – it's one of those places that just grabs you with its personality right from the off. I've got to say, the happy hour is a real winner; those 2 for 1 deals on cocktails and cheap spirits make it an ideal haunt for catching up with friends without spending a fortune. The staff seem to be the heart of the place, always on form with their friendly chats and spot-on service, which really helps create that lively, welcoming vibe. The decor's a fun mix of quirky bits and bobs, like a shark's head on the wall, and they've got playlists that keep the energy up for dancing or just chilling. It's brilliant for all sorts of occasions, whether it's a birthday do or a private event – they've even got themed nights like Margarita Mondays to liven things up. But, on the flip side, some folks have mentioned the drinks tasting a bit subpar, with cheap mixers that don't quite hit the mark, so you might want to stick to the simpler options. And with it being a smaller spot, it can get crowded, plus it's shut on Mondays, which is a bit of a nuisance if you're midweek planning. Overall, it's a solid choice for a good time in North London, as long as you go in with the right expectations – I'd pop in for the atmosphere and deals, and maybe not for the fanciest cocktails.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The happy hour deals are an absolute bargain – think 2 for 1 on cocktails and spirits for just a few quid, making it a brilliant spot for a cheeky night out without breaking the bank.
  • The staff are genuinely warm and welcoming; from what I've heard, they're quick with recommendations and make everyone feel right at home, which really adds to the fun atmosphere.
  • It's got that quirky charm with decade-defying decor and a varied playlist that keeps things lively – perfect for dancing or just enjoying a good vibe with mates.
  • They've got loads of options for events, like private hires and birthday bashes, plus things like Margarita Mondays that turn an ordinary night into something special.
Cons
  • Some of the cocktails and drinks can taste a bit off, apparently due to cheap mixers and juices, which might leave you wishing for a bit more quality in your tipple.
  • It's closed on Mondays, so if you're planning a midweek get-together, you might have to look elsewhere or wait until Tuesday.
  • As a smaller bar, it can get quite packed, especially during peak times, which might make it feel a tad cramped if you're after a more relaxed evening.

Firstly, the positives - as with all Simmons bars; during happy hour, the drinks are super cheap. The staff at the Angel bar are friendly. The negatives - the cocktails and most drinks taste really bad. They seem to use really cheap juice and syrup for their mixers (which has a really disgusting aftertaste). I also witnessed people who could barely speak still being served drinks (which might explain my next comment). The men's toilets smelt like vomit, and the air freshener was hanging open off the wall. I put it back on and noticed a short while later it had been removed again. There was a general lack of atmosphere for a Saturday night. One staff member kept handing out sparklers and setting off confetti canon's (filling everyone's drinks with bits of confetti). Worth popping in for a quick cheap drink during happy hour (if you can stomach the odd tasting mixers). Not somewhere I would recommend heading for a night out.

Corey is hands down the highlight of Simmons Essex Road! From the moment we walked in, his energy lit up the place — warm, welcoming, and effortlessly cool. He mixes drinks like a pro, always on point with recommendations, and somehow remembers everyone’s order with a smile. Not only is he quick behind the bar, but he also creates such a fun, laid-back vibe that keeps you wanting to stay all night. Whether you’re out for a chilled drink or a big night with friends, Corey makes the experience next-level. Give this man a raise — he’s the reason we keep coming back!

I do not go to bars but I attended Simmons Angel and now have become a regular due to the absolutely unreal customer service that was provided here! The team and Solomon were exceptional and I am glad to feel appreciated spending my money as they make their drinks with love and cater to each of their customers individually! LOVE them so much here!
