About This Pub

Ah, The Brickstone – it's one of those places in Brixton that really tries to be all things to all people, and honestly, it pulls off a lot of it quite nicely. Picture this: you're settling in for a relaxed evening with mates, tucking into some hearty pizzas or those mouthwatering Ethiopian dishes that bring a bit of authentic flavour to the table. The staff are dead helpful, making sure everyone's dietary needs are sorted, and the refurbished space has this lively, community feel that's just perfect for watching the game or celebrating with family. It's got that multifunctional charm, open from early for a coffee right through to late-night vibes on weekends. But, let's keep it real, there are a few niggles that might put you off. Drinks prices can sting a bit, especially if you're just after something simple like a Coke, and the bar selection doesn't always impress. Then there's the sound system, which has let down a few evenings – imagine trying to enjoy a gig or event with dodgy audio, it's a shame because the place has so much potential otherwise. Prices can also jump up during special events, which feels a tad unfair. All in all, if you're up for giving it a go, I'd say pop in for the food and atmosphere, but maybe keep an eye on your wallet and check what's on first. It's got that hidden gem quality, but like any good chat over a pint, it's about weighing the pros and cons to see if it's your cup of tea.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food here is fresh and delicious, with a great variety including oven-baked pizzas, burgers, wings, and even authentic Ethiopian dishes that add a real cultural twist.
  • It's a versatile venue that caters to all sorts of occasions, from grabbing a coffee to hosting big events or watching sports, and they've got space for up to 350 people.
  • The ambiance is spot on after a fantastic refurbishment, making it feel welcoming and lively, perfect for a night out with friends or family celebrations.
  • Staff are generally friendly and accommodating, going the extra mile with dietary options and sharing special tastes like that homemade Ethiopian food on injera.
Cons
  • Drinks can be a bit steep, like £4 for a can of Coke, and the selection behind the bar is quite limited, which might leave you wanting more choices.
  • The sound system has had some issues, which can spoil the vibe during events or parties, as it's not always up to scratch.
  • Prices seem to skyrocket for certain events, like Eritrean or Ethiopian nights, where things like whiskey can triple in cost, making it feel overpriced.
  • Some folks haven't been completely wowed by the food – it's good, but not always exceptional, and the overall experience can vary depending on the day.

Had a great time here with fantastic company! Such a lovely venue just a shame the sound system let it down.🙉 Hopefully they will sort it soon as this place has great potential. Food was ok I wasn't blown away.

£4 for a can of coke central London prices 🥴🥴🥴 very little selection behind the bar don’t wast your time go further into Brixton for more atmosphere better food and cheaper drinks

They host different night events here but for some reason when it is an Eritrean/Ethiopian event, the prices for drinks seem to double/triple. I was there for NYE and they charged £150 for a bottle of whiskey. Now I’ve been to many night clubs in and around London but they don’t charge that much even in Mayfair or Park Lane for that matter. The owner likes to exploit their own people with these extortionate prices. Now I understand that this place was renovated recently but the owner seems hell bent on recouping their expenses within a year or two. Question to the owners. Why do you think it is ok to extort your fellow Eritreans/Ethiopians?

What great food! We got the pasta bolognese and the grilled chicken sandwich. Also the cheesy garlic bread appetizer with aioli. Everything was delicious. Staff also shared some authentic eithiopan food on injera that was the highlight of our visit. This place is a hidden gem.

I went there with family back in November 21 (after the place been fantastically refurbished) - Fab place. The food, the customer service and most of all the ambiance. We ate Ethiopian food but I also tried the pizza and chips. I chips was like no other. You can buy bottled beer but I went for a pint of draft. The guys in the bar seem they know what they were doing. Will visit again sometime soon and update you.
