About This Pub

Ah, The Boathouse – it's one of those places that just draws you in with its charming spot along the River Dee, where you can kick back on that unique floating beer garden and soak up the scenery. I love how they've got such a cracking range of beers and spirits, and the food menu is spot on, with hearty, seasonal options that leave you feeling satisfied without breaking the bank. The staff are an absolute treat, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly. On the flip side, if you're thinking of booking a room, it's worth noting that some might not be as comfy as you'd hope – we've heard tales of lumpy mattresses and a bit of wear showing through, which could make for a less than perfect night's sleep. All in all, it's a gem for a relaxed day out or a quick escape, but just keep those expectations in check for the accommodation to avoid any disappointments.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The location right by the River Dee is absolutely stunning – it's such a peaceful spot to unwind with a drink and watch the world go by.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of drinks, including award-winning cask ales and lagers that pair brilliantly with the scenic views.
  • The food is a real highlight, with fresh seasonal dishes, generous portions, and options for vegetarians and vegans – their Sunday roasts come highly recommended.
  • The staff are wonderfully friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home from the moment you arrive.
  • If you're looking to stay over, the accommodation offers comfortable rooms and free parking, which is a lovely bonus for a cheeky getaway.
Cons
  • Some rooms can feel a bit basic, with issues like uncomfortable mattresses or minor wear and tear that might not live up to expectations for a relaxing stay.
  • Views from certain rooms are quite limited, so it's worth checking in advance if that's what you're after.
  • There might be the odd inconsistency in the overall experience, like with room maintenance, which could put a slight dampener on things.

Right on the River Dee, the outside area is an old barge converted to a deck..good selection of beers, wine and spirits, a short and easy walk along the waterside path towards the the rowing clubs. Beautiful place to watch the river traffic. It also has accommodation however we didn't stay here but the place looked modern and well maintained

Best location to view the river and amazing food. Food is well priced and under 20 pounds you get full 3course meal which is enough for two people. Beautiful service and location to sit near the river. Must try their tomato soup, chicken with mushroom sauce.

The Inn was lovely, the room was clean and had everything we needed, everything was close by. Parking is free if you are staying or eating and drinkingat their pub. We had our evening meal there and lunch and the food was amazing on both occasions. The Staff were amazing, very friendly and we got served quickly. Will definitely be visiting again.

We booked a “superior” room with a view of the river. Unfortunately the room was very basic. The mattress was very uncomfortable, the bedside cabinets were both broken, one of the bath robes was full of stains and grubby, river view was very limited. We were very disappointed with it. On the plus side the meals were very nice and very reasonably priced. Staff in bar and restaurant very good. 4 star's advertised. More like 2/3 star.
