About This Pub

Ah, The Black Horse – it's one of those pubs that really captures the heart of a good British boozer, isn't it? From what I've gathered, the staff are an absolute delight, always up for a bit of banter and making sure you're looked after, which makes popping in for a drink feel like catching up with old friends. The prices are bang on too; you can get a solid pint or try out their range of ciders without worrying about the cost, and they've got that quirky charm with vintage posters and all, which gives the place a cosy, lived-in feel. Plus, if you're into live music, following their Facebook page is a must for catching the bands and events – it sounds like a proper laugh on those nights. But, let's be honest, it's not all roses; some folks have mentioned it can come across as a bit unwelcoming if you're not a regular, with people staring when you walk in, and there was that unfortunate bit about ants at the tables, which could put a dampener on things. Overall, though, if you're after a straightforward, no-fuss spot for a pint and some entertainment, it's worth a go – just keep your expectations realistic for that local pub vibe.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are genuinely friendly and make you feel right at home, especially if you're up for a chat.
  • Prices are spot on – affordable drinks with a cracking selection of ciders that won't empty your wallet.
  • It's got that classic British pub quirkiness, with cosy decor like vintage movie posters that add a fun touch.
  • Live bands and entertainment pop up regularly, making it a great spot for a lively night out.
  • It's a down-to-earth, proper pub without any pretentious vibes, perfect for a relaxed pint with mates.
Cons
  • It can feel a bit cliquey at times, with folks giving newcomers the side-eye, which might put some off.
  • There have been reports of ants around the tables, which isn't the nicest surprise when you're settling in.
  • The atmosphere isn't always welcoming for outsiders, making it seem more geared towards the locals.

Great pub with friendly staff. It's always a pleasure to pop in here for a drink or 2 at excellent prices. Recommend following their facebook page though to see what live bands or entertainment they have on that weekend

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Black Horse Pub in Kingswood, and I can't say enough positive things about it. This cozy and characteristic pub is a true gem in the area. The attention to detail, especially in the wall art, is intentional and cohesive. The vintage movie posters, like "Forbidden Planet" and "Creature from the Black Lagoon," add a unique touch to the ambiance. It's clear that the owners have poured their hearts into creating a special atmosphere. The presence of two inviting, warm fires only adds to the overall charm of the place. Whether you're a fan of darts or simply looking for a relaxed evening, this pub has something for everyone. The live blues performances on Tuesdays are a delightful bonus, making it a perfect destination for music lovers. What I appreciate the most about the Black Horse Pub is that it provides a tranquil and welcoming escape from the trendy hipster pubs of Bristol. It's a great spot for both locals and newcomers to Kingswood. Having moved here a year ago, I've always felt welcomed and at home in this establishment. Lastly – the drinks are reasonably priced, making it an even more appealing choice. I wholeheartedly recommend the Black Horse Pub to anyone seeking a fantastic place to unwind, enjoy great company, and savor well-priced drinks in the Kingswood area.

Quiet night tonight but genuinely friendly landlady/landlord. Easy going pub. Didn't eat. Great bands on nights when music is on. Probably the most beautiful puppy behind the bar that I have ever seen. Really down to earth pub. Not pretentious, just a proper pub 😁.

It's a pub which seems great for locals, but not so great for everyone else. They stare when you walk in and the atmosphere isn't very friendly. There were also ants all around the indoor table we were sat at. Plus points - it's cheap and they have a good selection of ciders, including Lilley's Cider.
