About This Pub

Ah, The Big Bulls Head – what a lovely spot it is in the heart of Birmingham's Digbeth area. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, this place really knows how to do things right with its mouth-watering meals that folks rave about, like those steaming hot Irish stews and Sunday lunches that are just spot on. The atmosphere is spot on too, with a lively feel and great music that makes it perfect for a casual get-together or even stepping out after an event. And if you're looking to stay over, the B&B rooms sound like a proper treat, all clean and comfortable with a hearty breakfast thrown in. On the flip side, though, the operating hours aren't always straightforward, so you might end up planning around that. It's not the place for anything too flashy or modern – it's all about that authentic, no-nonsense pub experience – but if you're after a genuine, welcoming vibe with top-notch grub, it's definitely one to check out. All in all, it's got that warm, community feel that makes you want to pop in for a pint and a chat.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – think hearty, home-cooked classics like perfectly cooked steaks, ribs that fall off the bone, and delicious pies that leave you wanting more.
  • It has a lively and welcoming atmosphere, with great music and a traditional old-style pub vibe that makes you feel right at home.
  • The B&B options are a real treat, offering clean, tidy rooms with nice touches like tea and coffee facilities, plus a gorgeous full English breakfast to start your day.
  • Prices are reasonable for the quality, serving up straightforward, no-fuss meals that deliver great value without any fancy gimmicks.
Cons
  • The operating hours can be a bit unclear or inconsistent, so it's worth checking in advance to avoid any disappointment.
  • It's very much a traditional pub, which might not suit those after something more modern or trendy – it's all about the classics here, so it could feel a tad old-school for some tastes.

Awesome old style pub with amazing food. My steak was cooked perfectly. The ribs just fell off the bone and the Beef and Guinness pie was beautiful, 10* for amazing meals. Not much more to say, simply stunning.

Great pub. Fantastic home cooked food, simply done at a reasonable price. No gastro gimmicks here but serving traditional foods such as steaming hot Irish stew or traditional dinners are highly recommended. Food is mostly served to diners in the quiet lounge area to the rear but you can also eat in the bar if you wish. Five stars, order with confidence!

Called in for lunch before heading back to Bristol. Lovely, original style old pub, lovely seating area in the lounge too. Ordered the Sunday Turkey lunch and the food was delicious. Lovely and hot as you would expect. Can’t fault this little corner pub, it’s atmosphere is great and the staff are lovely too…. We will call back here when we’re in the area again. Thank you for our lovely lunch before our long journey home.
