About This Pub

Ah, The Beech House – it's one of those places in St Albans that I've heard mates rave about for its welcoming feel and how they go the extra mile with families or if you've got allergies, like one reviewer who had a brilliant time with their little one. The food's generally spot on too, with good options for kids and vegans, making it a solid choice for a relaxed lunch or evening out. But, let's be honest, it's not all smooth sailing; a few folks have mentioned slow service even on quieter days, and the menu can seem a tad limited at times, which might not suit everyone. Overall, it's worth popping in for a pint and a bite if you're in the area – just keep your expectations in check and you'll likely have a lovely time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly accommodating, especially for families and those with dietary needs like allergies or vegan preferences – it's really reassuring when you're out with kids or have specific requirements.
  • The food is generally top-notch, with a solid menu that includes options for kids and some lovely choices for vegans, making it a versatile spot for different tastes.
  • It's got a lively and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for a casual date or a family gathering, and the overall vibe feels warm and inviting.
Cons
  • Service can be a bit hit or miss; sometimes it's slow even when the place isn't busy, which might leave you waiting longer than you'd like for your meal.
  • The menu might feel limited in spots – one person mentioned it was just pizzas on their visit, so it could disappoint if you're after more variety.
  • There have been instances where the initial welcome isn't great, like being ignored when you first arrive, which puts a bit of a dampener on the experience.

I’ve been to the Beech House many times and always thought the service and food were great. I had an exceptional experience today though. My young son and I went for lunch, which is tricky as he has a food allergy and is still quite young for a lot of food options. The staff were so accommodating though, and happily made him a pizza he could eat with no risk. He absolutely loved it! The service was very quick too, which is a huge deal when you have a little one, likely to get bored any minute! Thank you team! We’ll come back again, when it gets too lonely at home! 💜

A lovely little lively restaurant that I visited when on a date. The server who served us could only be described as sweet and professional. I have noticed the menu was a little bit limited, Pizzas only but I'm not sure if we got the right menu or not. Either way we enjoyed two wonderful pizzas and some cocktails/mocktails that were going at a one for two deal. They were amazing.

We've been here a few times for special occasions and today was for a family birthday. Food is always really good and a decent menu for kids. Very accommodating to our requests. Service was a bit slow, considering it was really quiet. But overall yet another great visit.

Not one to write negative reviews but the service we received today was shocking. My friends and I entered the restaurant and were ignored while others were directed to their seats. The table service was poor. For a table of nine we got 1 bottle of water. We kindly asked for some extra water for the table which never came. When our food came (the food was fantastic!) one of the girls needed some sauce but it was impossible to get the attention of any of the waiters. After our meal we asked twice for the bill. When it was given to us we waited for someone to come and take the payment. After 15mins we asked again and were told we needed to come to the bar to pay which was absolutely fine but there was no communication we were left guessing. While the food was great the service from every person we encountered was very poor.

This is our second time visiting the Beech House. They have lovely vegan options. Jack was very kind and friendly with my questions about vegan and non vegan recommendations. We’ll try the sticky pudding during our next visit!
