About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about Craft & Cleaver – it's one of those places that just hits the spot for a proper pub experience in St Albans. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food is an absolute standout; think juicy ribs, tasty burgers, and those combo platters that give you a bit of everything without breaking the bank. It's got that warm, welcoming feel with staff who go out of their way to make sure you're looked after, and if you're a fan of craft beers, they'll even let you sample a few before you decide. The atmosphere is spot on too – nice decor, a good playlist in the background, and it's dog-friendly, which is always a plus for us animal lovers. On the flip side, it does get pretty packed at times, so you might have to plan ahead or brace for a bit of a wait, and the opening hours aren't the most straightforward, which could catch you out if you're aiming for a late one. All in all, it's a gem for anyone after honest, hearty food and a good laugh, but just keep those potential queues in mind to avoid any disappointment.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely brilliant – especially the BBQ options like ribs and burgers, which are packed with flavour and great value for money.
  • Friendly staff who make you feel right at home; they're always welcoming and even offer tastes of craft beers to help you choose.
  • Lovely relaxed atmosphere with a great playlist and stylish decor, perfect for a casual catch-up with mates.
  • Dogs are welcome, which is a real bonus if you're popping in with your furry friend.
  • A solid selection of craft beers on tap, and specials like discounted cocktails on certain days add to the fun.
Cons
  • It can get quite busy, especially on evenings or during peak times, so you might end up waiting for a table or service.
  • The operating hours seem a bit varied, which could mean it's not always open as late as you'd hope for a spontaneous night out.

Wish there were more BBQ places like this one around, food was excellent! Very tasty! Highly recommend! Nice relaxed atmosphere (great playlist) and friendly staff - dogs welcome to! Do you fancy opening a restaurant in Salisbury? :)

Absolutely amazing food!! Me and friend were looking for a decent burger for dinner, found Craft and Cleaver online, and after looking at the photos went to try it out. We we surprised to see it was busy on a Wednesday night during the Easter break but after sitting down and seeing the menu, we realised it was a proper American style BBQ joint! No wonder it was busy. The server was really friendly and recommended the Texas Tray and we were not disappointed at all. The food was absolutely magnificent and I’m glad I had this rather than a burger. It was some of the best meat I’d ever eaten! It was so tender having been in the smoker for 8+ hours, and the beef just fell off the bone. It was so good and we couldn’t finish it all. I would 100 percent recommend this place especially if you’ve never tried American BBQ before. Fantastic food, friendly staff, and a great atmosphere.

This place is really nice. Great decor, enjoyable atmosphere. The staff are friendly, the menu is large and has good variety. We got the combo, which is a choice of two meats, two sides, and on Tuesdays you can get a cocktail for a pound more which is great. Excellent value, food is delicious, would recommend the sausage and the pork ribs. Cocktails were all excellent as well. Definitely worth a visit

Literally one of my favourite places to eat locally. Insanely tasty food!! We nearly always get the pitmaster tray, which has a little of everything. They also have my favourite beer on tap. Food comes out quick, decor is cool & staff are friendly. Also added bonus is that dogs are welcome!!! They even bought him some meat as a treat. Love love love!!

Absolutely loved this place. We ordered burnt ends and rack of ribs. The food was excellent, and there's a great selection of craft beers that we were offered tastes of. Big thanks to Shane, who made us very welcome on my wife's birthday. I'm definitely coming back with our friends.
