About This Pub

Ah, The Bedford – it's one of those places that just feels like a proper community hub in Balham, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, folks absolutely rave about the warm vibes and how it's perfect for everything from a quick drink with friends to hosting a full-blown wedding. The food stands out as a highlight; imagine tucking into a juicy burger or some rosemary fries with gluten-free options, all paired with a solid selection of beers and cocktails that don't cost the earth. It's got that live music and comedy scene nailed, with endorsements from the likes of Ed Sheeran and Joe Lycett, which adds a fun, energetic twist to your night out. On the flip side, though, it's not without its quirks – the lack of clear operating hours can be a bit of a faff if you're trying to coordinate plans, and it does tend to fill up quickly during events, so you might end up jostling for space. Overall, it's a solid choice if you're up for a bit of excitement, but if you're after somewhere more low-key, it might not hit the mark every time. I'd say give it a go; it's got that charm that keeps people coming back for more.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely buzzing and welcoming, making it a brilliant spot for catching up with mates over a pint or enjoying live music.
  • The food is spot on – think tasty burgers, gluten-free choices, and even a top-rated Sunday roast, all made with quality British ingredients.
  • Staff go above and beyond; they're friendly, helpful, and really make you feel at home, whether you're there for a casual drink or a big event like a wedding.
  • It's a versatile venue with great events like comedy nights, quizzes, and live gigs, plus boutique hotel rooms if you fancy staying over.
  • Drinks selection is fantastic, with craft beers, cocktails, and affordable options that won't break the bank.
Cons
  • The operating status seems a bit unclear from what I've seen, which might leave you wondering if it's open when you fancy a visit.
  • Without specific opening hours listed, it could be tricky to plan a trip, especially if you're popping in after work.
  • With so much going on – from music to events – it can get pretty packed, so it might not be the quietest spot if you're after a relaxed chat.

Fabulous venue. Great friendly service. Gluten free food and drink options. Enjoyed rosemary fries and sauces. Loved the clubroom where the AMAZING London Fusion Bellydance Festival show was performed.

Have gone for drinks several times. Usually end up getting food too, which I thought was really good. Enjoyed the burger! Good beers and a nice place to meet up with friends. Will return!

What more can I say about our experience at The Bedford. I'll start with this... They made our wedding day everything me and my wife could have dreamt of. Great wedding planning from the get-go, so a special thanks to Becky for all your help. Your knowledge and expertise really help to shape our day and keep us at ease with back-and-forth information via email. Becky and her great team on the day worked to execute our vision for the ballroom and then went on to serve food and drinks to us & our wedding guests. (Special thanks to Hannah & team running the bar until the end) With such a high volume of guests, we were all amazed by the speed of service quality and temperature of the food for 100+ guests. All plates looked the same, pleasing to the eye and even better for the taste buds. From one chef to another, I take my hat off to you and your team. Family and friends all had an amazing time and also stayed in the boutique-style hotels tgat we really can't recommend highly enough Kind regards Ellis & Nat

This is a great pub and hotel which I highly recommend. I had my 2nd charity event ( and 3rd party ) here last week. The pub and function rooms are really lovely and the hotel rooms are big and boutique! But what really makes this such an amazing place is the staff. Everyone goes above and beyond to ensure you have a good time, from the bar staff, the sound engineers, the managers, everyone is super polite and professional and you feel you are in safe hands. Special shout out to Hannah and Benga who were so helpful and knowledgeable both before and during the event - nothing was too much trouble The food is great too!
