About This Pub
You know, I've popped into The Avalon a few times now, and it's got this real charm that makes it stand out among London's pubs. Picture a handsome red-brick spot in Clapham South, named after that mythical Arthurian island, where you can soak up the sun in one of their three cracking outdoor spaces – a chilled courtyard, a buzzy terrace, or the main garden that's been voted the best in the city. The staff are just brilliant, always going the extra mile to sort out drinks or food orders without any fuss, which really adds to the welcoming vibe. On the food front, their pizzas are spot on and the Sunday roasts are a proper treat, especially with all that focus on quality British produce. Plus, if you're into your beers or watching the footie, they've got a solid selection that keeps things lively. But let's be honest, it's not all perfect – some dishes feel a bit light on the plate, and if you're hoping for something beyond the usual pub classics, you might come away a tad underwhelmed. Still, for a relaxed catch-up with mates or a family outing, it's a solid choice that strikes a nice balance, especially on a fine day when those gardens shine.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The outdoor gardens are an absolute delight, with three fabulous spaces that make it London's best spot for al fresco drinking and dining on a sunny day.
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating, always ready to handle any requests with a smile and make your visit memorable.
-
They've got a cracking selection of beers, cocktails, and tasty pub grub like amazing pizzas and hearty Sunday roasts that offer great value.
-
It's a fantastic place for groups, events, or catching live sport, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating to accommodate everyone.
Cons
-
Portions on some dishes can be a tad small, leaving you feeling like you might need an extra round to fill up.
-
The food is pretty standard pub fare, with a lot of fried options that might not excite if you're after something more adventurous.
-
Outdoor areas are brilliant when the weather's good, but they can feel a bit disappointing on rainy days when you're stuck inside.

Had a lovely time for lunch. Sat in the garden under the covers which was lovely. Quite at this time in the day and the bar staff was extremely friendly and helpful when ordering food. Pizza was amazing, would recommend!
Excellent (and huge) pub attended for a work get together. Excellent choice of beers and football, indoor and outdoor seating and live sport. Catered for over 80 colleagues with little fuss.

Marie, Tom, Mike, Preston and Kevin were by far the most accommodating kind and understanding staff I’ve ever met! We had many rounds of drinks and some awkward food orders but never a problem for these guys! If you want top quality service you need to go and meet these people they will look after everyone equally! Such a gorgeous time thank you all for making it so special xx
A nice pub, close to Clapham Common tube. It’s got a nice large beer garden however on our visit the weather was crap. Our group of 7 ordered a range of peoples from chicken burgers to a salad. Food is fairly typical pub food, most things are fried or covered in breadcrumbs, and showing the football next door means you occasionally jump out of your skin when someone scores.
Great menu for a Sunday Roast - we had roast beef, roast belly (gluten free) and the veggie chestnut, grain & parsnip wellington
Really tasty food and good value for what was served
Half pint the same price as a Diet Coke / lemonade. Overall value was good but portions could have been a bit larger with more roast potatoes rather than mashed potato to prop up the rest of the meal
Shame to have no roast chicken left but service was excellent with friendly and attentive staff and a very clean pub
Will be back soon!!
