About This Pub

Ah, The Barley Mow in Droitwich – it's one of those classic pubs that has its charms, but it's not without a few rough edges, if I'm honest. On the bright side, I've heard it's brilliant for a relaxed catch-up; the staff and regulars can be dead welcoming, and you'll find affordable drinks and fun extras like a pool table or karaoke to liven things up. It's especially nice if you're popping in for a quick pint and fancy mingling with the crowd. That said, it's a shame about the occasional unprofessional behaviour from behind the bar – things like distractions or sour faces – and the owners don't always come across as the friendliest bunch, which might make you feel a bit out of place if you're not a familiar face. Plus, the cleanliness could do with some attention, what with the mess outside and the state of the facilities; it's enough to put you off your ale sometimes. All in all, it's worth a try if you're in the area and up for a gamble on the atmosphere, but maybe keep your expectations in check for a truly polished night out.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere can be really welcoming, especially if you're up for chatting with the locals and staff – it's one of those places where you might end up making new mates over a pint.
  • They've got a decent selection of drinks at affordable prices, which is always a plus for a casual night out.
  • Amenities like the pool table and karaoke nights add a fun vibe, making it a great spot for a lively evening with friends.
Cons
  • Some of the bar staff come across as unprofessional, like getting distracted or not being the friendliest, which can put a damper on your visit.
  • The owners and staff can be a bit rude or unwelcoming if you're not a regular, making it feel a tad exclusive or off-putting.
  • Cleanliness is a real issue, from messy outside areas to subpar toilets, which might leave you wishing for a bit more upkeep.

Bar staff need sorting out, the young girl dressed with her belly out and her phone sticking out of her back pocket, Several times we had to ask to be served and then it was with a sour face. Several times she was Rolling her tobacco from behind the bar, very unprofessional. I've given this pub a chance a few times now but it only seems to be getting worse. I felt very uneasy at the fact one group of women in particular like to make fun and filming people that are simply just out for a good time. I have worked in pubs all my life and this is not it. What you attract is what you represent.

It would be great if the owners could start cleaning up all the glass and bottles left outside and all along the footpaths after Friday and Saturday nights. Not great that residents are sweeping the paths and cleaning up your mess.

Owners are rude/ border line bullys the way they talk to their staff, very clicky pub, made to feel unwelcome if your face don't fit. Seen better toilets in a construction site, atmosphere is non existent. There is a lot better pubs in droitwich, would not recommend this pub to my worst enemy. Unfortunately I have to give a star to post, otherwise it would be no star.

Nice friendly pub, we dropped in twice during our stay and found ourselves chatting to many of the locals (and the landlords!) - really nice and welcoming which you don't always get when you're a visitor. Decent selection and price of drinks, pool table, they had karaoke on the Friday (some great singers!) and thankfully the fire was going when is was zero outside. Will def come here next time we're in.

I go regularly to the karaoke nights and from my very first time of going there i was made welcomed by the staff and the customers . Most of them were a lot younger than me but the respect shown by all was unbelievable and i will certainly go there again.
