Ah, The Baring – it's one of those hidden gems in London that really hits the mark for a proper gastropub experience. From the reviews I've seen, the food is where it shines brightest; think mouthwatering quail shish with garlic yoghurt, or those hearty Sunday roasts that come highly recommended – it's all about quality over quantity, and it shows in the flavours. The place itself has this lovely, cosy feel that makes you want to linger over a drink or two, and they've got a great selection to choose from, perfect for unwinding with friends. Service is mostly brilliant too, especially if you're there for a group booking or an event, where they seem to pull out all the stops. But, to keep it real, it's not flawless – some have pointed out that the portions can be a bit stingy, leaving you hankering for more, and on occasion, things like service speed or a slightly overcooked dish can let the side down. Still, with such high ratings overall, it's a solid pick for anyone after a memorable meal; I'd say give it a go, just maybe pop in with an open mind and perhaps a light starter beforehand to tide you over!

Lovely cute gastropub. The vibe is amazing!
Quail shish, garlic yoghurt & pul biber chilli is a must try!
Ham hock, Jersey Royals & broad bean salad is really nice.
Grilled Simmental rib of beef is a bit overcooked.
Crema Catalana ice cream & almond praline is creamy and delicious!
Staff are amazing and friendly, will definitely come back again!
The best restaurant and roast in London! I’ve been here a few times and I can’t recommend it enough. The food is exquisite and the restaurant itself is gorgeous. Always a lovely drinks selection - we even had pet nat by the glass
Quality not quantity. We had Sunday lunch here recently and my only complaint is that the portions were tiny. The Baring, on its website, calls itself a pub, and on its menu has a section titled Sunday Roasts. This creates a certain expectation. A Sunday Roast is a tradition. It's an occasion. It's a feast. You'd assume it would be your main meal of the day, and probably the heartiest meal of your week. I ordered roast lamb, and what came were three delicate slivers of meat, barely 100g. If it hadn't come with roast potatoes it would have passed for a starter. We finished, and I could easily have eaten the whole thing again. If they weren't charging £27 for it, I would have done just that.
Having said that, it was delicious, and as good a plate of cabbage, carrots, roast potatoes, mint sauce, lamb and gravy as I've ever had. I've tasted equal to it but not better.
It's just a shame my lasting memory of this meal is that the food arrived, and in that moment I didn't ooh, ahh or mmm. Almost involuntarily, slightly shocked, I turned to my partner and said "is that it?"
I went home afterwards and had a nice hearty dinner.
I came here yesterday for a private event. The food was incredible, private dining room beautiful and Sam looked after our group so well!
I’ve also been here previously for a normal restaurant in a Friday night and that was also great.
Can’t recommend this place enough!
The food was incredible and the service was good but a bit slow on Sunday.
To me the highlight was the quail. The roast was also amazing, we went for the beef and the meat was just perfectly cooked with a nice gravy and potatoes.
Def going back to try more small plates next time.
