About This Pub
You know, when I think about The Bailiwick, it's got that perfect blend of a cosy country pub feel with a gourmet edge that really stands out. The food is what steals the show – think beautifully presented dishes made from the best local produce, like rabbit or deer, with a sophisticated twist from the chefs' Michelin-starred backgrounds. It's clear they've put a lot of care into it, and from what I've heard from others, the flavours are spot on, whether you're tucking into a Sunday roast or a special tasting menu. The staff are brilliant too, always up for a friendly chat and making sure everything runs smoothly, which adds to that homely atmosphere. Plus, sitting on the terrace with views of the ancient woodland is just lovely, especially on a sunny day. But, let's be honest, it's not without its downsides. The prices can add up quickly, so it might feel a bit steep if you're just after a simple meal. If meat isn't your thing, the menu might leave you wanting more options, and sorting out parking can be a bit of a faff with no on-site spots. They're not open every day either, which is a shame if you're planning a last-minute trip. Overall, it's a gem for a special outing or if you're in the mood for something a cut above the average pub grub, but keep those points in mind for a balanced visit.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely stunning, with creative twists on classic dishes using fresh, local ingredients like game from Windsor Great Park – it's a real treat for anyone who loves a sophisticated meal.
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, making every visit feel personal and welcoming, like chatting with old mates over a pint.
-
It's set in a beautiful spot near Windsor Great Park, with a lovely terrace overlooking the woodland, perfect for soaking up the countryside vibes.
-
They offer great options for special occasions, like game tasting menus at a reasonable price, and it's clear they put heart into every detail.
Cons
-
It's a bit on the pricey side for a pub, so it might not be ideal for a quick, casual night out – you could end up spending more than expected.
-
The menu focuses heavily on meat, especially game, which means choices are limited if you're vegetarian or prefer lighter options.
-
Parking isn't straightforward with no dedicated spots, so you might have to walk a bit from nearby bays, which could be a hassle in bad weather.
-
They're only open five days a week, which might not suit folks looking for a spontaneous weekend escape or mid-week pint.

We've had Sunday lunch here a few times, always impressed. A weekday lunch this time, so we ate a la carte rather than the standard roasts. Stunning presentation and flavours. Friendly knowledgeable staff. Probably not a great menu if you don't eat meat, but we we ate rabbit, pork, beef and deer and they were excellent. The game charcuterie board was a standout but it's all great.
NB there's virtually no parking here, we always park in the south car park and enjoy the 90 minute walk all the way around Virginia Water.
An amazing experience for me and my friends. We booked The Bailiwick for a Monday night meal with friends and I cannot recommend it enough. The service was personal, friendly and down to earth - we had great conversations with all of the staff that served us and really enjoyed learning about the food we were eating. The venue is cosy, warm and the lighting helps to create a very chilled out vibe as well. We sat in the Snug area which was lovely. I imagine parking is a challenge at the weekend, but we came on a Monday night and there was plenty available.
The food was phenomenal as well - the little details like the hot, fresh bread served with an amazing compound butter and game stock, as well as homemade chocolate to finish were fantastic! That's not to mention the stars of the show, the food we ordered. The menu is exciting and features a wide variety of choices — we went for the deer for main which was phenomenal. The addition of the (probably butchering what this was, sorry) bacon sauce to go with it was fantastic! Plus, that hotpot was out of this world! It doesn't look like a lot from the look of the plates, but it felt like I'd never eat again by the time I left - you won't be hungry afterwards.
I had the soup and rarebit for starter - what a brilliant idea to serve it with rarebit! Divine. Plus the knickerbocker glory for dessert - a proper treat, the ice cream was delicious.
I cannot recommend The Bailiwick enough if you're looking for something exciting and different. Yes, it was a little more expensive than what I'd normally go for, but considering the quality of the food and the service I think it's well worth the price we paid.
Another plus - we were getting a little nervous about how eagerly our sparkling water was being replaced as we thought we'd need to pay for it — not the case! You pay one price (£2 per person) and get unlimited sparkling water with your meal. Restaurants like this could easily get away with charging upwards of £6 for 750ml of sparkling water, so I was really pleasantly surprised when I saw the bill!
I look forward to coming back here as soon as I can.
The Bailiwick Freehouse
This was an incredible way to truly get underway my dining year of 2025. We’ve visited the Bailiwick quite a few times now but this visit will definitely stand out.
On saturday evening enjoyed a fantastic Game Tasting Menu of 7 courses which priced at only £80 was amazing value for money.
We started the evening with a cocktail at the bar where we enjoyed a nice chat with owners Steven and Ami before taking our seats at the table. We chose a bottle of Lalande de Pomerol La Menotte 2022 that paired perfectly with every course.
The menu started with a fabulous selection of Charcuterie and Snacks including Rabbit Chorizo , Pigeon Salami , Rabbit Rilette with Cheese Sable and a heavenly Pigeon Sausage Roll along with a game consommé. This was followed by the Parker House Roll with a Game Bird Liver Parfait , sage and onion butter. Next to come was an excellent Game Terrine , Stuffed Pheasant Leg and Woodcock which was accompanied by an Offal Cottage Pie. Each dish was cooked to absolute perfection and the flavour was stunning.
This led us to dessert where first we enjoyed a Rhubarb and Custard pre dessert before the main desserts of an absolutely delicious Tiramisu and a Coconut Rice Pudding Tartlet.
We finished with a coffee and sticky toffee doughnuts before being joined for another chat with Steven and Ami. This gave us a chance to personally thank them and the team for an amazing evening from not only the team in the kitchen but the front of house which was led superbly by Lewis.
I would highly recommend a visit to the Bailiwick which is set on one of entrances to the Windsor Great Park. The food is amazing and you will be well looked after by the team.
Thank You Steven and Ami for a wonderful dining experience and look forward to seeing you all again soon.
Food was amazing!! It’s a classic upper class country pub located in a beautiful area.
They do have a Michelin star which highlight the quality of food, the service and the chefs of course.
Because of this, prices are more expensive vs a normal pub however it’s 100% worth it!
They offer a 2 course menu for £50 and a 3 course for £60!
Highly recommend!!
The food I had here this afternoon took my breath away. Service was exceptional and I can't wait to get back again soon! Enjoyed a prawn cocktail and a pumpkin spice parfait. The presentation is a great representation of how incredibly delicious it all was. Great selection of drinks to pair. Thank you for having us!
