About This Pub

Ah, the Rose & Crown in Chorley – it's one of those pubs that feels like a proper local gem, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews, the staff are absolute stars, always hospitable and creating that easy-going atmosphere that's just right for sinking a pint and chatting with friends. I love how it's got these unexpected perks, like the stable block that's been turned into a cosy spot with booths and a pool table – it's a real treat if you're up for a game or two. And with TVs dotted all over, it's spot on for catching the latest match without missing a beat. Folks like Caroline and MADDOGLEP really rave about it, especially for a good day out or events. But, to be fair, it's not all roses; one review mentioned a whiff of something off-putting, like a dirty toilet, which could spoil the mood when you first step inside. Plus, it seems a bit quieter than it used to be, with not as many people popping in, and that might make it feel a tad subdued on some evenings, especially since other pubs nearby have shut up shop. Overall, I'd say it's worth checking out if you're in Chorley and fancy a relaxed spot, but maybe plan to go with a group to keep things lively – it's got that solid 4.2 rating going for it, after all, so the good bits definitely shine through.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly hospitable and always make you feel welcome, just like in Rene's review – it's that relaxed, friendly vibe that keeps you coming back.
  • It's a proper traditional pub with some lovely hidden touches, like the converted stable block that's now got cosy booth seating and a pool room – perfect for a laugh with mates.
  • There are TVs everywhere, inside and out, so it's brilliant for watching the footy or any match, as MADDOGLEP mentioned.
  • The atmosphere is generally upbeat and welcoming, with great recommendations from visitors like Caroline, especially for events or a casual get-together.
Cons
  • One downside is the occasional unpleasant smell, like a dirty toilet, as Paul Sheppard pointed out – it could put you off when you first walk in.
  • It doesn't seem as busy these days, with only a few people around sometimes, and nearby pubs closing down, which might make it feel a bit quiet or lacking in energy.
  • Based on the reviews, there might be inconsistency in the experience, with some high praise but also a lower recent average rating of 3.3 out of 5.

Very disappointed with The Rose and Crown in Chorley when walking through the door the smell hit us. It was a dirty toilet smell the pub only had about 5 customers in and unfortunately I don't think that it is very busy anymore most of the pubs around it have all closed down now and it's a bit of a walk to it now. I then went for a quick wee in the gents and I can honestly say that the toilets had not been cleaned in over a week. Such a shame because when it was operated by Blind Tiger Inns it was spotless.

Only a short walk from the market and Paulicarus brought us to this lovely traditional pub. A surprise awaits out back where a stable block has been converted to booth seating and a pool room. There are TV's everywhere, inside and out. The main bar has 4 handpumps. Three in use on our visit. Paulicarus took a pint of Theakstones best bitter. Very good. Inside the rooms wrap around a central bar. A live music venue.
