About This Pub

Ah, The Artichoke – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, tucked into the heart of Croxley Green. From the moment you step in, you're greeted with that warm, homely vibe, and the food really steals the show; I've heard from loads of folks that the roasts and king prawns are absolute winners, all made with fresh, locally sourced bits that make every bite feel special. The service is another highlight – friendly staff who sort out any minor hiccups with a smile, leaving you with that feel-good glow. It's got a great selection of drinks too, whether you're after a fine wine or a classic ale, and they're spot-on for events, turning any get-together into a memorable one. On the flip side, while it's generally brilliant, there might be the occasional off moment, like a small mix-up that could dampen things briefly, and with an overall rating suggesting it's not perfect every time, it's worth popping in on a quieter day for the full experience. All in all, it's a solid spot for a relaxed evening out, and I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area – you might just find yourself returning for more of that charming hospitality.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot-on – think delicious homemade dishes with locally sourced ingredients, like the best roasts and fish & chips that keep folks coming back for more.
  • Service is warm and welcoming, with staff who go the extra mile to sort out any little issues and make your visit feel special.
  • It's got a lovely, calming atmosphere, tucked away in a quiet spot, perfect for a relaxed catch-up over a wide selection of drinks.
  • They're always up for hosting events and celebrations, making it a great place for gatherings with friends or family.
Cons
  • There might be the odd slip-up, like a small error with an order, though it seems they handle it quickly and turn things around.
  • With a general rating of 4.3, it's not flawless, so you could find the odd day when it's a bit busier than ideal or the vibe isn't quite as relaxed.

First time here. Some of the best food I’ve had in a pub in a long time! Will definitely be coming back again

Amazing! We had such a good time here, we're so excited to come back! This is the best roast we've had and the service was second to none and really made our experience. There was a small error but it was dealt with perfectly which quickly switched our experience to a 5 star one. The nut roast, potatoes and Yorkshire were delicious and we'd definitely recommend the cheesy leeks side. I can't stop thinking about the Eton Mess Trifle dessert and the coffee was great. Thank you!

We were recommended this place by some friends. Upon arrival there was a very calming atmosphere, because the pub is built right in the middle of quiet country road & is not full of the usual traffic and noise. Inside the pub, there is a vast array of beers on draught, not to mention a very nice menu with lots of food to choose from. We sat inside the function room out back & decided to order the beer battered fish and chips. It was absolutely delicious! Our waitress Olivia went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. She had a great manner & was very knowledgeable about the food on the menu. She was polite, calm, caring and helpful towards us despite being under extreme pressure as the pub was quite busy! Very highly recommended & well worth a visit 10/10
