About This Pub

Oh, I've got to tell you, The Architect in Cambridge is one of those pubs that just hits the spot for a proper British feed. Picture this: you're tucking into a perfectly battered fish and chips or a hearty pie, all customised just how you like it, with sides like samphire adding a nice touch. The drinks lineup is spot on too, with plenty of real ales and gins to choose from, making it easy to settle in for a good chat. What really stands out is the friendly service – the team are so approachable and go the extra mile, especially if you've got dietary preferences. It's got that warm, homely feel that makes you want to come back, and at reasonable prices, it's a winner for families or mates catching up. But, fair's fair, it's only open a few days a week, so you'll need to plan around that, and if you're expecting something wildly different from the classics, it might not quite deliver. All in all, it's a solid choice for anyone looking for reliable, enjoyable pub grub in Cambridge – I'd definitely recommend giving it a go when you can.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – their Fish & Chips and pies are delicious, with options to customise your meal for a fresh twist on classics.
  • Service is warm and attentive; the staff make you feel right at home, with quick responses and helpful advice, especially for dietary needs like gluten-free.
  • Great selection of drinks, including real ales, craft beers, and a wide range of gins, perfect for pairing with your meal.
  • Reasonable prices make it a brilliant value for a hearty lunch or dinner, without breaking the bank.
  • Lovely atmosphere with a happy vibe, whether you're sitting inside or enjoying the sun outside – it's a welcoming spot for a casual get-together.
Cons
  • It's only open three days a week, which can be a bit frustrating if you're planning a spontaneous visit and miss out.
  • The menu might feel a tad standard to some, so if you're after something really innovative, it could fall a bit short.
  • It gets busy, so you might need to book ahead to avoid waiting, especially for a table at peak times.

First visit. Ordered cod and chips. Absolutely delicious meal. My wife is Gluten free and the waitress explained all the options. She was very friendly. Very short waiting time. Reasonably priced. Will definitely visit again.

Excellent. Really nice premises and good happy vibe. They got us a table at short notice as a walk in. Create your own meal with combo of fish, batter, or pie, potato, side and sauce. Good service and very reasonable prices at £100 for 4 including drinks. Definitely recommend, but would book in advance.

Fantastic family lunch here sat outside in the sun. There are many (any?) places where you can choose from 3 batters that your fish or halloumi are cooked in. Interesting salads, chips made of actual potatoes & really good pies too. We’ll definitely be returning.

Fish&Chips Restaurant Looks like a fish& chips specialist therefore entered this restaurant. The menu was standard. Choose a main, a side, a potato side and gravy. With samphire option. Most of the restaurants do not have samphire available. I thought the fish pie tastes better than other places. It's not watery at the bottom of the pie dish. What a surprise that the fish & chips was not as good as the Ivy Cambridge Brasserie, the restaurant that is located at the Trinity Street. I guess it's a different price level is why. The fish & chips in the Ivy is more expensive. But still, the fish & chips in the Architect was good in terms of its price. Also, you can choose flavour of the batter, but not the Ivy. The environment was clean, quiet and tidy. The toilet was clean. Service was good. Would recommend the samphire side.

Delicious food, nice selection of beer, fantastic service. We tried the beef and ale, and the chicken and leak pies as well as the vegan fish and chips. All dishes were great and so was the sticky toffee pudding.
