About This Pub
Ah, Sir Isaac Newton in Cambridge – what a gem for us pub enthusiasts! From what I've gathered from the buzz around, it's got that warm, welcoming feel where you can pop in for a pint and end up staying for the evening. The food really steals the show; folks rave about the Sunday roasts, with the lamb and beef coming out just right, paired with tasty sides and gravy that'll have you going back for seconds. And the staff? They're an absolute delight, always on hand to make sure everything's tickety-boo. Plus, there's plenty to keep things lively, like affordable pool games and those pub quizzes that get everyone involved. It's not overly crowded, so you can relax with mates in the seating areas or outside if the weather's playing nice. On the flip side, keep an eye out for that bathroom lock in the gents' – it's a minor thing, but it could do with a quick fix to keep things up to scratch. Overall, with a solid 4.2 rating from heaps of reviews, it's clear this place knows how to do pub life right, blending tradition with a bit of personality. If you're in Cambridge, it's definitely worth a visit for a proper, enjoyable night out.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely spot on, especially the Sunday roasts – I've heard they're perfectly cooked with lovely gravy and all the trimmings, making it a top choice for a hearty meal.
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready with a smile and great service that makes you feel right at home.
-
It's got a relaxed and chilled atmosphere, perfect for catching up with mates over a pint, with plenty of space, outdoor seating, and fun extras like pool tables for just a quid a game.
-
They offer a different menu compared to other Greene King spots, which is a nice surprise, and it's popular with locals for things like pub quizzes and a good selection of beers.
Cons
-
One little niggle is that the gents' bathroom lock needs sorting out – it's not a deal-breaker, but it'd be better if it was fixed.
-
The operating hours seem a bit muddled in the details, so it might be worth double-checking to avoid any surprises if you're planning a visit.

I used to go here regularly when I was a student 15-20 years ago. Returned this weekend for a reunion. Still a fantastic place for a roast and a pub quiz! Staff are amazing!
Green King Exception
Trying to review the pubs of Cambridge therefore entered this pub.
I can't remember how many Green King pubs I have reviewed already, as mostly having similar menus.
But not Sir Issac Newton. It has different menu than other Green King pubs.
Therefore ordered lamb Sunday roast and Newton burger to try.
I was so impressed that the Sunday roast had more than just carrots, parsnips and potatoes. It had broccoli and cauliflower too. Looking colourful.
The lamb was cooked with a non spicy curry sauce, rather than just mint. Very different but worked well.
From vegetables and meat, everything was cooked well. Crispy Yorkshire pudding.
The burger too, so glad that the burger patty was not too lean, otherwise it would be too dry and hard for my liking.
The pub located at a quiet side of Cambridge town centre. Therefore less busy than other pubs.
The restaurant was clean and tidy. The staff were nice.
I think it's important for pubs to provide something different, otherwise customers would not remember you, finally would not return.
It's a Green King pub that I would remember for sure.
No notes on the food, was really good brasserie type stuff. Gents Bathroom lock needs fixing though 😅
We went with my BF for a drink and it was very lovely and chilled place, it was not too busy and plenty of space, we played pool, £1 for a game and they had some of our favourite beers which was great. The bar staff very friendly. There is also toilets on ground floor and seating area outside.
It's a really nice place and well decorated!
Staff was friendly and welcoming when we arrived 👍
The Sunday roast of lamb & beef was 🥰 💞 perfectly cooked, the gravy is lovely, and all the sides are well prepared as well 😋
