About This Pub

Ah, The Acorn – it's one of those pubs that really grows on you once you step inside. I've got to say, the food is a highlight; think hearty, homemade dishes like Katsu Curry or a perfectly cooked steak that leave you satisfied without emptying your wallet. The staff are an absolute treat, always cheerful and attentive, making it feel like you're catching up with old mates. Plus, being family and dog-friendly with a beer garden and all those little extras like WiFi, it's ideal for a laid-back afternoon or evening out. On the flip side, though, it's not without its quirks – some meals can be a bit underwhelming, like those pies that seem to skimp on the good bits, and it can get lively, which isn't great if you're hoping for a quiet chat. Overall, it's a solid choice for us pub enthusiasts looking for value and a welcoming atmosphere, but keep expectations realistic for the odd off day.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food here is generally spot on – fresh, tasty, and homemade, with options like Katsu Curry and steak that hit the mark every time.
  • It's a proper family and dog-friendly spot, complete with a dog menu, which makes it easy to bring the whole gang along.
  • Friendly staff who go the extra mile, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • Great value for money with affordable prices, weekly deals, and specials that keep things exciting without breaking the bank.
  • Lovely beer garden and facilities like WiFi and a car park, perfect for a relaxed catch-up over a pint.
Cons
  • Some dishes can be hit or miss, like the pies that might have more pastry than filling, leaving you a bit disappointed.
  • It's not the best for a quiet meal, as it can get a tad noisy, especially if you're after a peaceful evening.
  • There might be a wait for food during busy times, so it's worth planning ahead if you're in a rush.

I would not recommend this pub for a quiet meal. My first review was removed so let me try again. The food was below average. The pie was mainly thick pastry with very little filling. I noticed someone said the same thing a year ago but still the same pies are being sold. There was 2 small sticks of broccoli for the veg and the mash had a funny taste. The lasagne had very little meat filling and was mainly sloppy cheese. The Eton Mess had no meringue but instead was topped with fake cream to fill the space! There was a dog barking and running about the pub so we couldn't hear ourselves speak. The staff were moaning loudly about their boss taking smoking breaks and clocking up hours for it. As a customer, we don't want to listen to internal politics. We'd just come from a funeral in the area and wanted a quiet meal and a drink to celebrate the loss of our loved one. We definitely didn't get that here. I will never return to this pub.

What a lovely pub with brilliant and friendly staff! We visited The Acorn as a family, my Partner and I shared the Nachos as a Starter (the crisps looked homemade), I then had the Katsu Curry Chicken and my Partner had the Steak which was cooked to her perfection. All the food was homemade and very reasonably priced! We sat outside as the weather was gorgeous, the waiter and bar tender was extremely friendly and polite! Must say that this pub is dog friendly inside and out! Will be visiting again!!!

Amazing food. We started with the platter of camemberet for sharing. Friggin heck, that was amazing. Then moved onto their specials for the main. Stunning. Added to that they say they are dog friendly as many places do, but how many have a dog menu? 10 out 10

Exceeded expectations Ordered food at 2:30pm on a Saturday afternoon and were warned that there might be quite a wait. Food arrived in 20 minutes and was just as expected. Good hearty steak and ale pie.
