About This Pub

Ah, Cabbages & Condoms in Bicester – what a unique little spot it is, isn't it? I mean, you're getting proper Thai grub that's straight from the heart of Bangkok, all the way over here in Oxfordshire, and it's got this lovely social angle where the profits help out with things like health and education back in Thailand. It's dead nice for a casual get-together; the atmosphere feels welcoming, and if you're lucky, you'll tuck into some cracking dishes that could turn even a Thai food newbie into a fan. But, let's be honest, it's not all smooth sailing – I've heard from a few mates that the food can sometimes fall short, like starters turning up cold or mains that just don't hit the mark in terms of taste or freshness. And if you do need to mention any issues, the service might not quite live up to expectations, which can put a damper on things. Overall, I'd say it's worth a punt if you're in the area and fancy something a bit different, but maybe keep your expectations in check and have a backup plan, just in case. What do you reckon – fancy giving it a go sometime?

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The authentic Thai cuisine is a real treat, especially if you're introducing someone new to it – it's got that genuine Bangkok vibe right here in Bicester.
  • The surroundings are quite nice, making it a pleasant spot for a meal out with friends or family.
  • It's heartwarming to know that the profits go towards good causes, like health and education projects in Thailand, adding a feel-good factor to your dining experience.
Cons
  • Food quality can be inconsistent, with some reports of dishes arriving cold, lacking flavour, or even tasting off, which is a bit of a letdown.
  • Staff responses to complaints aren't always helpful, leaving you feeling a tad frustrated if things don't go right.
  • The place is closed on Mondays and has specific hours, so you'll need to plan ahead to avoid disappointment.

Thai dining at its finest! We brought a colleague who had never tried Thai food and he is now a convert! Thanks for making his introduction to Thai food such a fantastic experience! We will be back! Hope to visit you in Bangkok some day too!

The food was awful. Starters came out cold in the middle. Had steak which tasted gone off and an awful sauce served with it which looks wise also looked vile. Someone else ordered fried rice with chicken the chicken was incredibly tough and dry. When we let the gentleman know he was really not happy had terrible customer service the lady who he sent over to talk to us was lovely and understanding

Nice surroundings, pleasant staff until you give them you honest opinion of the food let alone not order dessert 😂. My portion was a good size and looked pleasant to the eye but had no flavour and meat wasn’t tender which shocked me for a Thai restaurant. My wife’s plate was 70% batter ( see photo which shows what was left )with hardly any chicken again lacked any flavour. When the owner asked how the food was halfway through and I told him he ignored my comments and didn’t return until time to pay, no apology or attempt to resolve the issue. Needless to say we won’t return. The B C Thai just round the corner has delicious food even if the decor is a little tired. We thought we would try somewhere different but left hungry and dissatisfied.

So firstly, I’m sorry for having to write this but I feel it’s 100% necessary. We opted for the sharing starter, it was oily, no flavour, not cooked properly, presented like a child had put it together - genuinely (and I mean this) worse than 3rd world standards. We also had coloured prawn crackers - tasted stale, oily and unpleasant. For mains : My friends chicken pad Thai was passable - just. For mains I ordered the lamb Massaman (I ordered this when I ordered starters, otherwise I would have left right away but I wanted to give the place a chance) Surprise surprise this was also a shambles, a few new potato’s cut in half -no flavour or care , the lamb was all the off cuts and the sauce was like a soup. Genuinely revolting. Had 2 bites and called it a day. We complained and only paid for drinks, had a bad stomach all evening. (Not surprised) : To the owner - I’d strongly suggest firing your chefs and evaluating how the company is run, how this place has any ratings over 1 star is beyond me but I guess everyone has different standards. Until this place has had some serious alterations done, I wouldn’t Recommend to anyone. On the plus side, the outside of the building is pretty. Again, I’m sorry but this was the worst food I’ve ever had (I eat out 3-4 times a week) Should you wish to contact me, please feel free to do so. Thanks
