About This Pub

Ah, Fibber Magee – it's one of those places in Belfast that really captures the spirit of a traditional Irish pub, isn't it? From what I've gathered from the buzz around, it's fantastic for a night out with mates, where the live music gets everyone up and involved in sing-alongs and reels that just lift your spirits. The drinks are spot on too, with a pint of Guinness that's always a winner, and the overall vibe is so welcoming, blending locals and tourists seamlessly for that genuine feel. The staff come across as really friendly and attentive, which makes the whole experience even better. On the downside, though, it's not all rosy – some folks have had a rough time with the food, like one chap who got a burger that was burnt to a crisp, and the chips weren't much better, which is a pity when you're hoping for a hearty meal. Wait times for food can drag on as well, so it might not be the best spot if you're starving. And let's not forget, space is at a premium; you'll want to arrive early to snag a seat before the crowds roll in and it turns into a standing-room-only affair. All in all, it's a top choice for music and drinks if you're up for a laugh, but perhaps give the grub a skip or pick your orders carefully to keep things enjoyable.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The live music is absolutely brilliant, with bands playing toe-tapping classics that get everyone joining in for a proper sing-along.
  • It's got that authentic Irish pub vibe down pat, mixing locals and visitors for a warm, inclusive atmosphere that's perfect for a fun night out.
  • The staff are dead welcoming and polite, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • A cracking pint of Guinness and other drinks that hit the spot, especially if you're after something traditional.
Cons
  • The food can be a bit hit or miss – one person mentioned a burger that was completely overcooked and inedible, which is a real shame.
  • You might face long waits for your meal, which could put a dampener on the evening if you're peckish.
  • Seating is quite limited, so if you don't get there early, you could end up standing around, especially when the bands kick off.

If you're visiting Belfast and want a great place to go that will provide a fun and friendly traditional Irish atmosphere, this is the place. The band tonight played familiar sing a long songs mixed with fantastic Irish reels. The crowd was a mix of locals with lots of tourists and the atmosphere was fun and welcoming. The band made you feel like you belonged. It is located in the back of Robinson's Bar on Great Victoria st. The trad music starts at 9:30pm. The price of the pints is expensive compared to other local Irish pubs, £6.90 for my lager but the atmosphere made it worth it.

I ordered the Classic Burger, and after a long wait, it arrived cremated. Both the patty and the brioche bun were inedible. The chips were also overcooked. How the chef sent this out to a customer is beyond me.

Absolutely brilliant night out with my fiancé. Two live bands playing some absolutely toe tapping classics. Real authentic Irish pub. Get there early because seating is limited and once the bands start you have no chance!
