About This Pub
Ah, the Swan in Woburn Sands – it's one of those places that really captures the essence of a traditional British pub, nestled in the heart of a picturesque town, and I've got to say, it's got a lot going for it. From what I've gathered chatting about it with others, the food is often a highlight; think delicious, freshly cooked meals with some absolute gems like those halloumi fries or a banging squid starter that leave you wanting more in the best way. The atmosphere is spot on too – imagine stepping into a recently spruced-up space with cosy fires, candlelit tables, and a lovely outdoor area that's perfect for a sunny afternoon pint. And the staff? They're an absolute treat, always friendly and attentive, plus it's great that they welcome dogs, making it feel like a proper community hub. On the flip side, though, it's not all roses; a few folks have mentioned that portions can be disappointingly small, especially when you're shelling out for what feels like premium prices – like a £15 sandwich that barely fills the plate. Then there are the occasional mishaps, such as long waits or food turning up cold and underwhelming, which can put a damper on things. Overall, if you're after a special spot for a relaxed meal or a catch-up with mates, it's worth a visit, but maybe keep an eye on the menu to avoid any surprises and go in with realistic expectations for a balanced experience.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is generally top-notch, with standout dishes like halloumi fries and squid starters that really hit the spot – it's fresh, tasty, and feels like proper pub grub done right.
-
The atmosphere is just lovely; it's got that classic country pub charm with stylish, recently refurbished interiors, roaring fires, and a great outdoor space perfect for soaking up the sun with a cold drink.
-
Staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home, and it's fantastic that they're so accommodating to dogs – ideal if you're popping in with your furry friend.
-
It's a premium spot with a wide selection of real ales, wines, and lagers, plus it's open every day from 11am to 11pm, so there's plenty of flexibility for a casual pint or a relaxed meal.
Cons
-
Portion sizes can be a bit on the small side, which might leave you feeling short-changed, especially when the prices are on the higher end for what you get.
-
Some experiences have been let down by long waits for food, with one instance where it arrived stone cold and not up to scratch, which is a real shame.
-
Pricing feels a tad over the top in places – like paying nearly £20 for a simple sandwich and fries – so it might not be the best value if you're after something straightforward and affordable.
-
Not every visit is flawless; there have been reports of disappointing mains that didn't live up to the hype, so it pays to manage expectations.

Recent Reviews
Food was reasonably tasty but very disappointing portion size and over-priced - 'sandwich' pictured was one small slice of bread with a bit of crab and some melted cheese. With a small salad this was £15!! Add some fries and it was nearly £20. Staff were friendly enough, but I wont be visiting again.
Have been coming here for many years and it only gets better. Food is always very nice and possibly has the best halloumi fries of any restaurant I've been to. Squid starter is also banging.
We love the atmosphere and charm of the place.
Very friendly place and great with dogs. My dog had a little nervous reaction the other day and they handled it so professionally. Couldn't be more willing to write a review on the workers there.
Great for an after ride meal, a date night or a drink or two. We usually go after a good ride at Woburn Sands trails and can always relax at the Swan.
Went to the swan on a Friday afternoon with my parents. We loved the atmosphere. The staff were kind and that the beverages were cold and we loved being out in the garden with the sun shining on us.
We had the most wonderful meal here today for Mother's Day and my Mum's birthday. The food was delicious, fantastic quality and cooked to perfection. The service that the staff gave to us and our children was impeccable (especially from Evie 😊). I would highly recommend for a special meal out or any meal for that matter! Cannot fault The Swan at all! Thank you!
AVOID…I wouldn’t have fed the food to my dog… if I had one.
Had the starter which was scallops- ok not worth the £13 odd price tag.
Waited nearly 40 mins for our main course. No one once came to update us on the food.
When it arrived the plate was hot but the food stone cold, dry and disgusting. As for the sides the veg was soggy, and the “cottage cheese” should never have been plated.
Clearly can’t handle that many covers without buckling under pressure…
