About This Pub

Ah, the Stanley Arms – it's one of those pubs that just warms you up from the moment you step inside, like catching up with old mates over a pint. I love how it's kept that authentic British feel, with a relaxed atmosphere where you can sink into a comfy spot for some hearty grub or a chat; the prices are an absolute bargain, especially compared to the usual spots, and the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome, which really adds to the community spirit. It's perfect for a casual evening or if you're exploring Chester and fancy a break. On the flip side, though, it's not without its flaws – the toilets are a bit neglected and could do with a spruce-up, and the outdoor area might not be the cleanest, which is a shame on a nice day. Overall, it's a solid choice if you're after good value and genuine hospitality, but it might not wow you if you're expecting something more polished. Still, I'd say give it a go; it's got heart, and that's what makes a pub memorable.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The prices are spot on – it's cheaper than Wetherspoons, which is a rare find these days, making it brilliant for a budget-friendly night out.
  • The atmosphere is just lovely; it's a proper traditional British pub with a relaxed, welcoming vibe that's full of friendly locals and helpful staff.
  • The staff really make the place shine – think chirpy bar staff and a landlord who's always ready with a smile and a chat.
  • It's got that genuine community feel, where you can enjoy hearty pub grub like pies and fish and chips, and even get a hand if you're in a spot of bother.
Cons
  • The toilets are a bit of a letdown – they're outdated, one might not lock properly, and they can look quite shabby, which puts a damper on things.
  • The outside seating area isn't ideal, as it's often littered with cigarette butts, making it less appealing for a fresh-air break.
  • It feels very much like a locals' haunt, so if you're not from the area, it might come across as a tad cliquey or not as polished for visitors.

I loved it, and I had fun. I drank quickly and left. It left a memory in me, and I left a memory behind. The time on the clock didn’t matter—what mattered was what time did to us. No one could turn time back, but time could do anything to us. I drank my tequila quickly and, after a pleasant conversation, I stood up—because that’s how it was meant to be. I couldn’t fall, I couldn’t stay silent. I had to keep going, and take responsibility for what flows in my blood. And for feeling all of this—thank you.

Don't know about the food as I didn't eat, but popped in for a drink, it was a locals pub, a nice atmosphere and friendly.

Nice local bar, friendly pub on outskirts of town

Very local residents pub. Seating outside but mainly seems to be for the smokers as fag butts everywhere. Beer was cheap. There is a pool table . Toilets not the most desirable. One out of order, one the toilet didn’t lock and one that just looks shoddy . Very old building just on the outskirts of Chester centre . No I don’t think I would go back, as at times as I felt very uncomfortable.
