About This Pub
Oh, Union Vaults is one of those hidden gems in Chester that really captures the heart of what a proper local pub should be. From the moment you step in, you're greeted by that cosy, welcoming vibe where everyone seems to know each other, and the staff are just as chummy as the regulars. I love how they've kept things traditional with games like darts and that intriguing bagatelle table – it's a brilliant way to while away an afternoon or evening. The pints, especially the Timothy Taylor Landlord, are spot on and won't set you back much, making it a top choice for a budget-friendly night out. But, let's be honest, it's not without its quirks; the beer options can be a bit sparse sometimes, which might leave you wanting more if you're in the mood for variety. And while its no-frills approach is charming, it might not wow those after a more polished experience. All in all, if you're after a genuine, community-feel pub where you can enjoy a good chat and a decent drink, this one's a winner – just pop in with an open mind and you'll see what I mean.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is wonderfully welcoming and friendly, just like chatting with old mates at your local spot.
-
It's got that classic pub vibe with games like darts, pool, and a unique bagatelle table that adds a fun twist to an evening out.
-
They serve up a cracking pint, such as the Timothy Taylor Landlord, and it's all at very reasonable prices – perfect for a cheeky tipple without breaking the bank.
-
As a community hub, it's a cosy place where you can pop in for a quick drink and feel right at home among the regulars.
Cons
-
The beer selection can be a bit limited at times, with only one ale on offer occasionally, which might disappoint if you're after more variety.
-
It's quite traditional and basic, so if you're looking for something more modern or fancy, it might feel a tad outdated.
-
Being a back street local, it could be a bit out of the way if you're not familiar with the area, and it lacks the buzz of busier spots.

Proper local pub with the local residents popping in for pre and after grocery shopping tipples.
Darts ,pool, bagatelle. Friendly staff and regulars.
Friendly, super, smashin, great local cosy pub and community hub, Egerton Street, round the corner from The Mill Hotel & Spa, Milton Street.
Proper locals pub in Chester. Great atmosphere and friendly locals. Had a lovely pint of Timothy Taylor Landlord. They even have a bagatelle table.
Excellent corner pub, with a interesting bar billiards table, plenty of bench seating in this split level pub, only a single ale available, but good enough.
Very traditional basic back street local. Only been here once before on way to railway station. Ic had a pint of Taylor's Landlord. £3.90. Fullers London Pride not on. The pub has an up to date Cask Marque as March 2023. Has a bagatelle table the like of which I have never seen before..no mushrooms and balls settle in the holes rather than drop. Apparently there is a league in Chester.
