About This Pub
Ah, Ye Olde Cottage Inn – it's one of those tucked-away gems in Chester that really hits the spot for a good old pint and a chat. From what I've gathered, the beers are an absolute highlight; they've got real ales like Otter Bitter and Wye Valley HPA on tap, and the staff go out of their way to keep everything just right, which is always a win in my book. The atmosphere is spot on too – imagine walking into a cosy pub where the locals are welcoming and up for a natter, with little extras like a warm fire on cold nights or even a cheeky pub cat making an appearance. Plus, their weekly charity quiz sounds like a blast, bringing people together for a good cause while raising money for KidsBank Chester. On the flip side, though, there was that one off-putting experience someone had with the child policy; it seems they might not always be flexible, so if you're with little ones, it's worth double-checking first. And don't forget, they don't do food, which means you'll need to plan ahead if you're peckish. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back evening out, as long as you go in with the right expectations – I'd say give it a try if you're in the area, but keep those potential niggles in mind for a balanced night.

Great location in Chester, close to loads of eateries, so you can pop in for a drink and then head out for a bite without much hassle.
Cons
-
There was a bit of a kerfuffle with their policy on kids; one person mentioned being turned away suddenly, which could put off families who've visited before.
-
They don't serve any food, so if you're after a meal with your pint, you'll have to venture elsewhere, which might not be ideal on a rainy evening.
-
The opening times aren't clearly listed, which could leave you hanging if you're planning a visit and aren't sure when they're open.

Great location for meet ups. Efficient bar staff, Cask ales in tip top condition. Keg beers and lager available. Close proximity to many good eateries. Pub cat may make an appearance and has a wonderful open fire on chilly evenings. Outdoor area at the rear and a landlord full of Chester historical info (and otter beer at times 😀). Pub style is typical of a community, wet lead place and has won many awards. A must visit for any good beer guide followers
Found this hidden gem on my day trip from Birmingham. It has a great atmosphere and enjoyed watching England defeat Wales, lol. We will definitely be back when we get better weather 😌
Best Pub in Chester, great atmosphere and most important of all great beer. Doesn't do food.
A lovely local back street pub. The regulars are friendly, welcoming and happy to talk to visitors.
The prices are also very friendly. Definitely worth a visit if you're in this neck of the woods.
