About This Pub
Oh, City Tavern – it's one of those pubs that really captures the heart of Chester, with its historic charm and that cosy, lived-in feel that's just perfect for unwinding after a long day. I love how the staff go out of their way to make you feel at home, sharing tips on what's on like games nights or live music, which adds such a fun, lively touch. The food's a real highlight too; their curry and cheesy garlic bread are absolute winners that leave you wanting more, and it's all at prices that won't break the bank. Plus, with the beer garden and big screens for sports, it's ideal for kicking back with friends over a pint. On the downside, though, a few folks have mentioned that some sides, like the veggies or mash, don't quite match up and can feel a bit disappointing, so you might want to skip those and focus on the stars of the menu. Overall, it's a solid choice if you're after a genuine, community-oriented spot – just keep an eye on what you're ordering to make the most of it!

-
They've got a real community vibe, with things like live music and family-friendly options that make it welcoming for all sorts.
Cons
-
Some side dishes, like the veggies, can be a bit underwhelming and not as fresh as you'd hope.
-
There might be occasional inconsistencies in food quality, such as the mash tasting like it's from a packet, which is a shame when the mains are so good.
-
It could get busy during events, so you might have to plan ahead if you're after a quiet spot.

Very pleasant bar atmosphere, top-notch service, out-of-this-world food. I highly recommend visiting this place in Chester 💜👍 🙏
Came here on a random weekday with the hubby had a wonderful meal. Hot and tasty. And the staff were wonderful, telling all about the lovely things they do during the week like games day and bingo and singers at the weekend. It's a pub that deserves a good following. Definitely coming back
Nice food, nice beer, warm spacious and comfy, an ideal pub to watch live football whilst having dinner and a pint. Food served reasonably quickly and the staff were great
Service we great, the waitress was friendly. We ordered the curry, sausages and mash, side of veggies and cheesy garlic bread. The side of veggies was underwhelming. The mash tasted like it came out of a packet. The sausages were great. I highly recommend the curry and the cheesy garlic bread. I grabbed the 2 for 1 cocktail which was yummy too.
We had a wonderful experience here all thanks to Sean, for being so welcoming and hospitable. The service here is 10/10 and the atmosphere feels so homely. The food is amazing too! I hope the photos do it justice, highly recommend to everyone 😊
